Forever waiting by this hospital bed. Not knowing if she will wake up or not. Being stuck in a coma for over a year never looks good. I try to stay positive but nothing ever works out. Looking at her makes me wonder, what if she doesn't make it. My own mum is basically on her death bed and I'm here to watch when I don't want to be. But the machine starts going off. The heart monitor making lines meaning the heart is alive and so is my mum. She opens one eye, looking round wondering where she is. Slowly opening the other one before I go and get the nurse. I run out of the room and shout 'NUUURRSEE.' A women in a white uniform comes into the room and shoves me and my brother out. A lot more nurses and doctors run into the room. We wait half an hour before we are allowed back in the room. As I walk in I see my mum, sitting up just staring at the ceiling. Tears start the brim my eyes.
'Claire.' My mum says in the sweet voice I have missed. I run and give her a hug. I have missed her so much.
'Mum, I've missed you so much. I can't believe you actually pulled through.' We release each other from the hug.
'Tyler. I've missed you.' My brother walks over and give mum a hug also. Once they pull away, Tyler comes and joins me on the bench next to the bed.'What day is it? Date? Year? It feels like I have been gone for ages.' She speaks. I can see the tears of happiness fall down her pale cheeks.
'It's Saturday the 14th of August, 2015.'
'Jesus, last time I checked it was May 2014. I'm just glad to be back.'
'Do you want something to drink Mum?' I ask. She tells me she wants 'tea with 1 sugar and no milk.' I leave the room and head to the lift at the end of the ward.I kinda know my way around this hospital as I have come here everyday for over a year. My mum was in a car accident on the 7th of May, 2014. Me and my brother where at home alone when we have a phone call saying that mum was brought into the hospital. Ever since then she has been in a coma. After a year was past everyone kept saying 'shes never going to wake up.' But she did. On the 14th of August 2015, she did.
As I'm walking down to the coffee machine, one boy catches my eye. I walk up to the machine and put in my money realizing that I has 10p short. I rummage around in my pockets to find some spare change when someone taps me on the shoulder. The boy from before hands me a 10p and I say 'thank you.'
He stands behind me while I grab the drink from the machine. I turn round to talk to him. 'You really didn't need to do that. You don't even know me.' He turns around to walk off and I follow him.
'So what's your name?' He doesn't answer. 'Well I'm Claire Evans.' He still ignores me. We walk in silence through each corridor until we walk different ways. I walk to my mums room and hand her the coffee.
'What took you so long, love?' She asks.
'Oh I was talking to someone.' We all start talking about the things Mum has missed but I really couldn't get into the conversation. This boy was on my mind, in and out of my thoughts. Why didn't he talk to me? What did I do? It really confused me.'They said they are keeping me in over night just to make sure I'm okay so I will be home tomorrow.' She hugs us both before we exit the room and exit the hospital. I thought this may be the first night in a year knowing that my mum is okay. But no, this stupid, ignorant boy is on my mind.
Once I tuck my brother into bed when we get home, I walk into my own bedroom and open up my laptop. I type in 'boy with blond ish curly hair and blue eyes' and nothing comes up. I search Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and nothing come up.
I turn off my laptop and get into bed. This boy. What about him is intriguing me? No one has ever ignored me before, ever. When I go back to the hospital tomorrow, not only will I be going to see my mum, I will be going to find answers.
I switch off my night light hopefully switching off my brain and the curly haired boy.
