My first attempt at uploading one of my already written stories on wattpad.

Chapter 1

It was a normal evening. I was doing what I usually did- nothing. I was on the couch in the living room watching a show I had no interest in. I was just trying to kill time. It was the last Friday before school resumed from summer holiday and my cousin, Robin and I, planned to have fun one last time. The show was really cliche, I could predict everything that was going to happen then I heard something that caught me off guard. It had me clutching my stomach in pain from laughing too hard, "...Normal is boring...". If there was anything I ever wanted to be, it was  'normal', whatever it actually was. I had a not so normal life. I could see dead people or I had a really bad mental condition. One of the two.

After about a minute of laughing, I wiped the tears that had escaped my right and eye and searched for a time piece. The wall clock right above the television said it was 9 p.m. "Time to get changed", I said to myself. I dumped the bowl of pretzels in the kitchen as I ran to my room passing the cold bare walls that left no trace of human occupancy in the house. My aunt, her husband and Robin had lived there for eight years.

I scanned my closet for a suitable outfit. Revealing but comfortable. My eyes finally landed on a purple skin tight dress that stopped mid-thigh. I chose matching shoes and a purse. I lay the outfit on my bed then started with my make-up. I was going for an edgy intimidating look. I put on my dress and shoes then looked in the mirror. I made a few adjustments to my hair that I had curled earlier, then carefully went down the stairs. I walked to my cousin's room and banged on his door

"Robin, get out, I'm ready." I yelled then walked to the kitchen to have some water.

Robin, my cousin, walked into the kitchen with a grin plastered on his face. He was wearing dark jeans and a black button-down shirt. He looked good but I wasn't going to tell him that.

"What's so funny?" I asked a bit irritated. He was always smiling. Even when he was hurt, he'd just take a deep breath then put that grin back on his face. He knew I didn't like it. It seemed like he always did it to upset me.

"Nothing", he said heading for the fridge.

"As expected" I muttered then dropped my empty glass in the sink.

"Heard that" he said I could almost feel him grinning. I shuddered.

"Don't care. Let's get going, I don't want to have to wait in line all night" I yelled walking to the garage. I got in the driver's seat of Robin's car then buckled my belt while tapping my fingers impatiently on the steering wheel. I let out a groan just before he entered the passenger's seat.

"Do you enjoy being late?", I asked backing out of the garage.

"You say it like you've never been late" he said smiling while shaking his head.

"To school, I have... a lot and that's different" I defended myself.

"Whatever you say" He said then there was silence.

We passed a lot of people. Some had a slight glow to their bodies. They were dead. Most of them were trying to reach out to the living. They were screaming, crying, trying to get the attention of the living but nothing worked. I looked away. I didn't want to pity them.

I had always been able to see them. When I was little, I'd talk to some of them, I didn't know the difference then. My classmates thought I was a freak and my teachers thought I had an imaginary friend and it was just a phase. When I hit puberty, I was able to tell the difference by then. I came to terms with the fact that I was a freak. My mother said it was a gift but I saw it more like a curse. it made me different and an easy target for bullying. I decided to act like they weren't there. It made me feel more normal.
