"You're biggest fear is being murdered by the mentally insane, and you want a job sitting with one...in a room...alone?" mom asked.
"Will you just let me live my life the way I want to live it? I'm 20 years old, I think I can make my own decisions." I argued.
"Harleen, number 1: you are not 20 until next month, number 2: you're not allowed to blame me if you get murdered!" mom said.
"Thank you, I have to go now, I start in half an hour!" I explained as I walked away.
"You already applied?" she asked, quite surprised.
I just ran away and waved. When I got outside it was storming. I got into my car and drove to Arkham Asylum.
"You are 5 minutes late!" Andie Moor practically yelled.
"I know, I'm sorry!" I apologized.
"I hope you don't have anywhere you need to be because all the criminals you were assigned get their 5 minutes back, which means you will be here an extra 30 minutes!" she explained, loudly I might add.
I walked down the hall and into my office. I looked at my schedule to see who I was working with. For the first week they give me five criminals each day. And then they look at the statistics to see who improved the most, the one that improved the most is the one I will be seeing for the rest of the time I work here.
At least that's how it normally works. They've been having problems finding the right person for one of the criminals. All they told me was that it's a male and he's one of Gotham's most dangerous criminals. I took the job because it pays extremely well.
Suddenly someone opened my door and ran inside. It was The Joker! By instinct, I screamed. Just after he hid somewhere in the room, Andie and some other people ran in my office minutes later.
"What's the matter?" Andie asked.
"The criminal you assigned me took me by surprise." I lied.
"Honestly! You can't just yell like that because something surprised you!" she explained.
"I'll go get him then." One of the guys said.
"That won't be necessary!" I said trying to stop them from trying to get Joker from his cell. I don't know why I was trying to protect him.
"Are you quitting already?" Andie asked.
"No, I already got him out, he's in the closet." I really hope he is in the closet, and that they don't check.
"Next time, leave it to the proffessionals. And be careful, we haven't had any deaths yet and we would like to keep it that way!" Andie warned.
They left the room and closed the door. A cloud of smoke appeared. When it was gone I saw The Joker.
"Why so serious?" he asked as he leaned over my desk. He laughed maniacally. I thought I would be able to handle it and get over my fear but I guess I was over estimating myself.
"Mr. Joker." I said, I'm trying to make myself sound more confident than I am. By the expression on his face I could tell it wasn't working.
"Ms. Harleen." Mr. Joker responded.
"Please have a seat." I requested.
"Is that an order? Or a suggestion?" He asked.
"Mr. J-"I started to say Mr. Joker but I felt someone grab my waist and pull. Before I knew it we were no longer in my office but outside of the asylum and next to the sewer.
