The one-night stand

The story

The next morning, we tried out some of the rides and ate lunch, then returned to the hotel so that Josh could get ready for his date with Anna, the girl from last night. Jace and I were just going for a walk and Pete was going to spend some quality time with his dad.
Soon Josh left for his date and we headed towards a perfectly lit with little lights Fantasieland. We spent most of our time chatting, mostly about all the things we did when we were drunk. We decided to try the huge wheel with the view of Fantasieland, it was like the London eye, but smaller.
" Are you sure Josh wont be mad we tried the wheel without him?" I asked, a little concerned.
" I don't think he will, he tried it last time he was here" he answered.
" I really can't imagine that adrenaline junkie trying out a boring ride." I said as we took our seats and started moving slowly.
" You know Mollie,  people change, time and circumstances do that to them. Each person's character is a puzzle and you don't really know them unless you've put all the pieces together. Josh wasn't always like this.  Being childish and carefree is his defense mechanism, his way of dealing with pain. When he didn't have it he was lost. He may be happy, cheerful and childish, but some years ago he was anything but."
" What do you mean? Was he depressed?"
" At some point he was, yes. Last time he was here, he wasn't alone.  He was with his family and his brother." he said, his tone sad.
" His brother? I didn't know he had a brother." I said unable to link the puzzle pieces once again.
" He doesn't, not anymore. He lost him 8 years ago. That's also when he last travelled to Germany. It was his brother's wish so the Make-a-Wish foundation made it happen. He chose Germany because he also had to go there for treatment in a hospital in Berlin . He passed away two months later." he said, answering many of my questions at once.
" Was Angela his doctor?" I asked unable to limit my curiosity.
" Yes, kind of, she has just an intern back then now she's an actual doctor. Josh was 15 back then so she hang out with him a lot, showed him the hospital and stuff. Do you know what Josh does for a living?"
" No I don't know many things about him, actually." I answered realising what he meant by his previous statement. Just because I know josh's present doesn't mean I knew his past,  especially when it's a well hidden one.
" He is a bio-medicine engineer specializing in the development of the PET scan. He is basically making it more accurate and affordable for people. I dont really know how it works but I know it can diagnose cancer and give you information about how much it has spread and how serious it is." he said, obviously admiring his best friend. I couldnt blame him though,  I felt shocked by his contribution to humanity and his courage.
" He is a fascinating human being ." I said as we were stopped on the top of the wheel,  having an amazing view of Fantasieland.
" Yes he is." Jace said, while staring at the view.

Hey people! Did you like this chapter? I know it's small and it's kind of a filler but I really wanted to give some info about Josh. I know you dont know many things about the characters yet but we will get to know them slowly( even Mr One-night stand ;)). Furthermore, I would like to point out that I have never been to Fantasieland so the rides aren't real. If any of you had been to Fantasieland please comment below, describing some of the rides. If not you can still comment and describe any awesome ride from any awesome amusement park( and what you would like to happen there).
