1; OCTAVIA NOLAN
"She was dead. "
✵✵✵
Peter Pan once said, "To live would be an awfully big adventure."
For some that story of the boy who never grew up was a story many knew about, and a dream to never grow up to face the world of the unknown. Whatever that unknown is, not many could say that they have similar experiences, but they all say that being an adult is scary. Being an adult is to have a job, pay bills, try to make it in life on your own until you find that perfect someone to deal with the world together; not many people would suspect the world crumbling before their very eyes like a tower of blocks. Not everything about being an adult is spectacular, maybe that was what Peter Pan tried to save himself from: the pain and misery.
Octavia Nolan is one that never wanted to grow up, but she did anyways, now seeing herself as an adult. She has tan skin, and straight black hair that goes just below her shoulders. She lives in the rough part of Los Angeles, working at the hospital as a nurse in training. Being a 20 year old, she is only about three years into college, and passed her first year of interning at the hospital and now has a full-time job there which could be a living hell, but she makes it work since she has to pay the bills to her apartment and taxes.
She was born a God-fearing woman, brought in the Christian faith. Her parents were hard-core about their faith, always checking in on her to see if she went to church every Sunday and had been reading the gospel every night. Like anyone that has ever known what it feels like to have hovering parents such as hers you would know that sometimes going to church every Sunday becomes more like a chore. But, Octavia keeps her faith.
Her parents are living in New Mexico, they had moved there a few years back from their native city Los Angeles. She had made her decision to stay, and went to college in L.A. to become a certified nurse. She still had numerous friends here, though some had split off into different paths, from going to college or to do other things such as low payment jobs to afford college.
She had gone to high school at the one down the street called Paul R. Williams High School, which set her up greatly with a medical prep college that gave her a kick start to be at the hospital she works at now. Which, after taking a year of interning, she had gotten a full-time job instantly.
She always dreamed of being a medic, and deep down, her heart called her to become a surgeon. Unlike other nurses who had stuck with the status quo, she wanted badly to be one setting up the operating table and be the one to save lives. She was stuck as a doormat basically, for her Attending Doctor to order her around with nursing the patients before he comes in to give a diagnosis and a line-up of what the path to recovery entails. That was what she wanted to do. To be able to come in and be greeted as a Doctor who had almost all the answers to the one that was sitting idly in the bed, waiting for a cure of some kind. For now, she was stuck with runny noses, crying kids who come for shots or blood drawings, and impatient people with broken bones.
The sharp beeps from her pager grabs her attention, drawing her eyes to the side of her table seeing the clear message for assistance at the hospital. Picking up her mug of coffee, she takes a sip and puts it down exhaling a deep breath.
If there was one thing that she wished more for, would be her Phd. But, she still has a year to go until she can go into medical school to become a doctor. So, for now, she has to wait patiently in her pale blue scrubs that painted a big sign that literally spells out Nurse to the others in the hospital.
She sat up from her table, and put the mug into the small rusty sink of the kitchen. She then walked back down the narrow hall to her single room where she pulled on her scrubs, and picked up her bag that had extra clothes, food, and her medical kit inside. You can never be too careful in the streets of Los Angeles. Ever since her first time in Los Angeles she had seen a recording of 500+ wrecks. Maybe more, but she had never been down in trauma for longer than a day to see if that was true.
