I eyed my old man sit uncomfortably on the couch. I didn't exactly hate my dad, well not really. I was young when he left and of course I was disappointed but I let it go with ease. It never really came to me that one day I'll face him again. And that one day was when things just started to fall into place piece by piece. I snuggled up into Bryan as he just sat. I couldn't exactly tell if he hated the fact that I was dating a guy but I'm sure he finds it unusual.
"So what brings you back after all these years?" I really didn't mean for that to sound harsh. I swear it sounded a lot better in my head. My dad shifted uncomfortably before gulping in.
"Oh uhm, I just felt like things are better now. People changed, they grew up and became wiser. At least that's what happened to me. All these years I wondered what happened to you guys. We weren't the perfect family, hell yeah Eliza and I knew that. To people we seemed like the family. But I left you guys as I couldn't put up this image of us being a perfect family but behind closed doors and windows, Eliza and I weren't working out. So I left, knowing it would be much easier for me. Yes I was selfish but I didn't find some one else to be with. To me you guys were still my family and I could never replace you both. I have just gotten in contact with Eliza yesterday and she accepted me and we're working on putting our marriage back in place again." He explains to me.
Wow, my parents back together? I never thought of that but all I know is that I love the sound of it. And even though I'm now a man who doesn't live with their parents, it's good to know that I can leave with my parents growing old together.
"Uhm ok, where've you been though?" I asked him.
"Downtown, I've seen you a couple times, I was there at your graduation but I didn't have the guts to come up to you. I also knew you moved in here with your boyfriend Bryan," Now I was just creep out..
"Uhm, we're getting married.." I mumbled.
"Huh?" He looks stunned.
"We're getting married," Bryan repeats firmly.
"Don't you think you guys are too young?" He questions vaguely.
"We're 24, 25 this year actually." I explained.
"Ohh, it's been that long? Woah, uhm congratulations then? What're the details for the wedding?" He asks.
"That'll come in soon. We need to tell family and friends first," Bryan defines.
"Ohhkay, I'll be in room 803. Here's my number, call me if you need something," He offered me a piece of paper before I stood up meeting my father's eyes.
I was now about his height. It's very nostalgic looking at him. I grave him a hug and he kissed my forehead before he left the pent house.
"Uhm, what now?" Bryan asks me.
"Jump in the shower, I'll text everyone to meet us at a cafe on 44th, we gotta announce this." I told him and gave me a rough peck before heading towards the bathroom.
Yeah, the pieces are falling into place. And I could never be thankful enough for this.
