Utterly Tragic
I looked in the mirror checking and making sure everything was perfect. My make-up, hair and clothes had to be perfect. I wanted to impress him. For once in my life I wanted to be perfect. I first saw him a couple months ago, when he first moved to our school. He was gorgeous by far. I slipped on a pair black boots and grabbed my backpack from my bed.
“Have fun at school,” my mum yelled from the kitchen just has I closed the front door. I hastily got into my car and drove to school as fast as I could. I didn’t want to be late even though the school was only ten minutes away. Just as I parked my car my best friend Jason rocked up in his old pick-up.
“Hey Sofia” he said opening the car door.
I quickly hugged him, seeing Shaun who was seated with his friends at the front gates. I was so distracted I didn’t realise Jason was talking. “What?”
“What do you even see in that guy?” he asked squinting at Shaun.
“He’s sweet and good to talk to you,” I stated rolling my eyes.
“What about me?” he asked walking along side me.
“You’re my best friend.” An emotion I couldn’t recognise passed through his eyes but was gone as soon as it came. I smiled flirtatiously as I passed Shaun. When he winked back, I almost squealed in happiness. “Did you see that?” I breathed out when we got to our small lockers.
“See what?” Jason asked.
I grinned happily. “He winked at me. Do you think he might like me?” I asked pulling out my books for my classes.
“Everyone likes you,” he said following in suit.
I pursed my lips, “You say that with every guy I like.”
“Because it’s true.” He shrugged, he suddenly looked nervous. “Can I ask you something?”
I burrowed my eyebrows at his bizarre question. The sound of the bell shrilling throughout the halls drowned out my reply. “I have to go to math. Tell me later?” he nodded giving me a half smile before walking the other way.
As I was walking to math, I wondered what he was going to ask me. I secretly hoped he was going to ask me to be his girlfriend. I’ve always liked him but I’m too afraid to tell him about my feelings, afraid of rejection. Although I didn’t just like him, I loved him.
I sat next Alison – we met the first day of high school and been good friends ever since. “What’s with the face?” she asked accusingly.
“What face?” I asked playing innocent.
“Don’t play dumb. You know what I’m talking about. What’s the matter?” Trust Alison to know that something was in fact wrong. I groaned closing my eyes. “That bad?”
“I’m so confused. I like someone but I love someone else. But I can’t be with them because I don’t want to ruin our friendship.” I turned to Alison and she has a knowing smile on her face.
She patted my hand. “It will all work out.”
“Promise?” I whispered softly.
Her eyes softened. “Promise.”
As the class started, I found my mind elsewhere. When the bell rang I practically raced out of the classroom. I wasn’t looking where I was going and bumped into someone. I bent down immediately and picked up my textbooks from the floor.
“Watch where you’re going.” It was Shaun. I stuttered not knowing what to say. “Get out of my way loser- wait; hey you’re Sophie, right?” Ouch.
