Chapter One

Just another day on the farm, that's all I thought it was going to be. Well that is until my dad told me we were getting another hand around the farm. "Lemme guess, another city boy whose parents want then to experience nature?" I said focusing my glare onto a pale boy with a long and baggy shirt on, basketball shorts, and a flat billed hat. I was just about sick of living on the stupid farm. It was basically a ranch retreat for city people to drop their kids off when they wanted to go on vacation in the Bahamas or wherever. I only ever became friends with one person but she left and we rarely ever talk anymore.

"Actually, no. He's from a few towns over. I believe Elkhorn.

"Really?" The thought of an actual country boy on the farm was exhilarating. What did he look like? What was his name? How old was he? Many questions flustered throughout my mind. "When will he be here?"

"Well, why don't you look for yourself, Bridget?" He said with a smirk on his face. I turned my head back so fast I almost got whiplash. I saw a tall boy with a farmer's tan, deep jet black hair, pearly white teeth, lustrous brown eyes, and an enticing deep voiced southern accent.

"Hi there, my name's Aidan, Aidan Payne." He said holding out a calloused hand. I was mesmerized by his perfection. I went to shake his hand but as soon as I touched his hand, I got a weird feeling and passed out.

I woke to find myself being carried bridal style in some ones strong and masculine arms to the house and up into my room. But then, when I looked up I found it wasn't my dad who was carrying me, but it was Aidan. "Damn," I thought to myself, "He's now gonna know where I sleep... ah!"

As he gently sat me down on my soft and comfortable bed, he let out a deep and throaty chuckle as he whispered softly into my ear, "Gotta be careful now. Don't want a pretty little thing like you getting hurt. You almost hit your head off the wooden post to the fence. Oh and your daddy wants you to show me 'round I guess, but like, I can wait!"

"No. I'm... I'm fine. I just need to rest for a lil bit, sorry."

"It's fine, don't worry about it! Er... I have a question for you?"

"Um... yeah?"

"Am I allowed to stay in here with you? I know whenever I was sick or got a concussion, my momma would cuddle up with me in bed and it would definitely help. It might help with you if you want..."

"Oh, uh, sure" I said unsure of what I was getting into.

"Cool!" He said as he pulled the blankets over me and slipped in next to me. I felt so comfortable. Well, until he reached his arm across me and pulled me closer to him.

"No." I said firmly as I pushed his arm away forcefully. "If my daddy taught me anything, it was to never EVER get too close and friendly with the helpers/coworkers." I said, rolling off the bed. I saw a great frown arise on his face.

"Let's go, I'll show you the ropes and where you'll be stayin." All of the kids shared two bunks. One bunk for the boys and one bunk for the girls. That's why the parents like our 'retraining farm' as they called it. Many people (adults) came to help serve food and help with the kids and all that, but me? No, I wasn't lucky enough to have a normal life. I grew up with older kids and I matured a lot faster than most kids my age. My mom would play with me when I was quite little until I was 5 that is. She went to visit my grandma who had had cancer. On the way there, the plane was hijacked. Most of know it as the 9/11 plane that hit the first twin tower, I knew it as the torture and pain of losing your mom.

We walked outside and I started to tell him where things were. First, we headed to the left, towards the chickens and turkeys. "Now, the left side is the chickens and the right side is the turkeys. Their food and supplies are on the same sides in the shed up there." I said pointing to a small warehouse on the hill between the two barns. As we kept walking, I felt his eyes fall upon me and stay for a while many times.

The sun was starting to set as I showed him the horse barn. "This is Sudar, Cisco, Keeper, Sniper, and Alfed." I said pointing at each horse with each name.

"Alfred?" He asked with an eyebrow raised and a little chuckle

"Yeah, he's a rescue. We found him on the side of the road. Someone left him there to starve."

"Wow, that's horrible!"

"Yeah, well, it's time to go in. You will be sleeping in the blue bunk house in room #29."

"But I wanna stay with you!" He said with a grin and a wink.

I clenched my teeth and walked back to the house. I had to call my best friend, Melody, to plan with her for the party the next night. I quickly showered, changed, brushed my teeth and hair, washed my face, and then finally dialed up Mel's cell. It only rang twice before she picked up.

"Hayden?!" She asked cheerfully.

"Um... nah. Sup home slice?" I said mimicking the voice of one the boys who had had stayed with us.

"Oh, hey Shawn! Haha just kidding! I'm good, what about you?

"We got a new hand around the farm. Oh god is he GORGEOUS! But..."

"But what? Is he a city boy?"

"NO! He's full-fledged country! There's just something about him, like he's hiding something, a deep secret. It's kind of scaring me, since you know, he showed up basically out of the blue..."

"Wow... well send me a pic! Please?!"
