After we attempted to finish our snack from the kitchen. Dominic decided that we should keep moveing. We needed to figure out what else was here. So we started back along the twisting hallways and corridors. Dominic let me hug his arm while we walked. It was comforting and I couldn't lose him that way, let's just say he wanders. A lot.
All of a sudden he grabbed the other side of me and held me back. "What..." I asked right before he covered my mouth with the sleeve of his coat. It smelled slightly of dried pudding. He made a shush motion as he slowly moved forward and relesed his hand from my mouth. It wasn't long before I thought I heard the reason why he stopped. It was faint, and I couldn't hear what exactly it was. But I clearly heard something deeply breathing around the hall corner. He held his hand out, as to tell me to stay where I was. "I..." I tried to say, then I stopped. I stayed where I was while he slowly looked around the corner. He looked for a long while. Probably a solid minute in till I put my hand on his shoulder. He turned around.
"Lets go." He mouthed and then tugged on my arm as we went back down the hallway, away from whatever was behind the corner. I tried to pull away but he was persistent on getting me away from that thing. At the end middle of the hall my struggling finally paid off and I got loose. I quickly walked over to the corner where I could see whatever was behind the wall and I did. I tried not to make that much noise. But when I did look, slightly regretted it.
Around the corner around 10 feet away was a wild pig. But bigger.
"Please, I hate pigs." He whispered. The pig looked up at me, and the breathing stopped.
"Fuck!" I clearly yelled and ran while clinging on to Dominic for my life. We ran a really long time in till we found a unlocked door. We quickly entered and locked it behind us. It had a really old lock like the ones you find in restaurant bathrooms. Only this one was separating us from a pig other than the pad dispenser, and was hardly attached to the door.
"I told you we had to go!" He yelled. "Now that's thing is after us. This is why they have the saying curiosity killed the cat." He sat down on the chair next to him and sighed. It was silent for awhile. We didn't feel like talking and I was a little scared that thing could hear threw the wall. But then broke the silence.
"Your a teacher. How don't you know the actual quote is ' curiosity killed the the cat, but satisfaction brought it back?'. don't you realize we can actually get to the other side of that hallway now. I think I saw another kitchen." I said calmly.
He smiled. "I'm gonna make sure the coast is clear. Your an idiot." He laughed.
"But you love this idiot" I said back, but he had already left the room.
________
I waited. And waited. And Then a little more waiting. And I waited, in till I finally decided to go after him. He hasn't been back for a really long time. As I walked down the hallway I heard some footsteps and I ran towards them. They were around the corner that the pig was at. I slowly approached and looked around the corner. Thankfully, it was no longer there, but Dominic was.
"Hey!" I called. He looked over and smiled. He was leaning against the railing before it led into the forest or garden. He looked happy.
"There is a bald eagle." He said. "I've never actually seen one of these in real life. I've always wanted too." I was surprised. Who has never seen one of those birds?
"Have you never been to a zoo? Or even a national park?" I asked.
"Yeah, but they never had any birds. Weird, I know." He said. I looked back over the ledge. I've noticed it's been awhile in till we last ate from the lurch In my stomach. I leaned over to Dominic and whispered so I wouldn't interrupt the bird.
"Do you remember where the kitchen was?" I asked. He looked over to me.
"Sadly no." He said and looked down.
"Bathroom?" I asked.
"No."
"Bedroom?"
"Not really, no."
"Anything?!" I asked vary annoyed.
"I remember where I found a berry garden." He said and held out his hand. He held some brown berry that looked like they had a sepia filter on them. "They taste like blueberries, here." He said and put a couple in my hand. My first thought was to shove a couple in my mouth, so that was exactly what I did. He was right. They tasted exactly like blueberry, but didn't look like them.
"I'm calling them sepia berries. They look like they are filtered." I said, eating a couple more. They were amazing considering the only thing I ate for a day was half a gallon of chocolate pudding.
"Good name. I think they are just really old blackberries though." He said and I thought about that.
"Wait... if they are fermented does that mean we will get drunk?" I asked while putting another tiny mouth. I was hungry, what did you expect?
"Well... that would be... interesting. I ate almost 30. " He said and gave a little laugh. I took a deep breath.
"Do you miss him?" I asked. He almost choked on his berry when I asked him.
"Ok, yep. You definitely get drunk on these because you hardly ever ask about Russell. And defiantly wouldn't ask if I miss him." He laughed. "He's my husband, Deana. Of course I do. But... since I am lost in somewhere that may not even real..." He paused, " I'm glad I'm with you."
"Yeah." I said and rested my head on his shoulder. "I wanna go home." I whispered.
"It will be fine." He said and hugged me tighter. "Now that I think about it I remember where the bedroom is." He winked. Ha. Really Dominic.
"Smooth." I said sarcastically.
"Well, Miss Deana. Shall we go?" He asked and held out his hand.
"Gladly." I said and took it. He led me threw the halls. This will be a good night.
