The woman still remembers the over whelming pain in her heart when she heard the news of her husband's death. She remembered how she begged him not to go. She knew that something terrible would have happened if he did.
To make matters worse, two months before this all happened, she discovered something that scared and overjoyed the both of them.
She was pregnant.
When word came of Ace being captured and his execution date being set, Marco hid her away on and island, knowing Ace would want her and the baby out of harm's way. She waited months to hear what happened.
When Marco returned, he didn't need to speak. The tears in his eyes and the look on his face told her everything.
Her husband and adopted father were dead.
"Do it. Or the son of Ace dies." The bandit said, knowing all too well who the pregnant woman in front of him was. Her cold jade eyes bore in to him at his words, not a single emotion in them.
"The son of Ace has already died." She said emotionlessly. With no further words. She stepped off the cliff and fell backwards. Her eyes closed as she fell. She felt herself being caught, but not by arms. She felt the sand below gently touch her back before she opened them.
"You need to be more careful. Ace would kill you if he-" the man started.
"Ace is dead. You know that better than I do, Marco." She said. Marco sighed and ran his hand through his hair.
"Did you find him?" She asked.
"Yes." He responded.
"Take me there." She said. With a nod, Marco did as she told.
Later
"Luffy, this was left for you." Boa Hancock said, a frown set on on her face, carrying a small basket with her.
"Hm? What is it?" Luffy asked, walking over to the woman. He peered inside the basket, hopping for meat, only surprised at what he found instead.
That hairstyle... Those freckles...
It couldn't be... Could it?
"There's a note, too." Boa said, handing him the paper. He read the message written on the paper.
Luffy,
This is Portgas D. Rogue. He is the son of me and Ace. Due to certain circumstances, I can not take care of him.
Luffy, please, I'm begging you, take care of and raise Rogue. Not just for me, but for Ace.
And most importantly, do not tell him who his parents are. Keep this a secret from him until he is old enough to understand. Raise him as your son until then.
If he has questions when the time comes, I am at the place where it all started.
Love, Portgas D. Aoi.
Luffy sighed as he read the note again.
"Take care of a baby? Me?" Luffy wondered out loud.
"I could always do it." Boa voulenteered lovingly. Luffy shook his head and gently raised the baby from the basket.
"No, Aoi and Ace want me to do it, so I will. Alright, Rogue, so you're my son now." Luffy said looking at the tiny baby.
"I'm gonna raise you to be the best pirate ever!" Luffy said with a wide grin.
The poor baby had no idea what he was getting in to.
