I sat crossed legged against the wall, patiently waiting for my turn. I looked down at my lap as they took yet another blood sample from Kim. I didn't have to look up to know she was nervous. Despite her brave act, I knew she wasn't a big fan of needles. At least she no longer tries kick the people in the room anymore.
I tried to remember how we even got here but it was like the memory always escaped me. And it wasn't just that memory. I couldn't remember anything from Before. Just random picture here and there, and I could never hold to them. They told me it was normal but I didn't believe them. It had to do with one of the many injections they were giving us, I bet. I couldn't the place anymore.
"All finished. Tia, please come take a seat. Kim, you may choose to wait by the wall if you wish." I looked up as Kim stood up from the only chair in the room. It usually depended on Kim's mood whether she waited for me or not. Today she stayed. I sat in the chair she left.
I remained perfectly still as the doctor started prepping the viles. The nurse tied an elastic strip above my elbow and cleaned the part of flesh the needle would poke. Well, I assumed they were the doctor and nurse here. They were the ones who always dealt with our injections and attended our wounds. I still didn't know there names after all this time. They only spoke to us when they had to. After all, we weren't people to them. We were their lab rats and lab rats are only meant to be used, not for socializing. Fine by me.
Having been through this so many times, I didn't need to be told to make a fist as the needle pricked my skin. The doctor didn't really have a gentle hand and the stung, but I kept a straight face. I've felt worse pain in here. It didn't take more than a minute for the doctor to finish. He didn't like us anymore than we liked him.
The nurse didn't bother with a band-aid. She simply wiped it clean. My blood was already beginning to clot, anyway. Still, it still would have been nice if she offered one at least. "Escort them back to their rooms." Kim stood up and we followed the nurse. We've been obedient for almost five years so they started to be more careless with the inner security. As far as I know, we were the only subjects. At least in this Lab. I glanced at Kim and she nodded at me. It was finally time.
Kim attacked the nurse and the second the nurse fell, Kim broke her neck, killing her instantly. I could tell Kim felt bad but we didn't have time for me to reassure her.
"Hurry, it won't be long before they find her." I start to run, not waiting for her to follow. I knew she would. I didn't hesitate as I ran down the hall to the weapon's room. Stupid scientist for not locking our doors at night. "Quick, grab two sets of supply pack, I'll grab weapons. Don't forget the cloaks."
I rushed into the room and grabbed two weapon bags and started to fill the, up. A couple of guns, a whole lot of ammunition was first. A few daggers as well. I grabbed a bow and as many arrows that could fit in the quiver, along with a double edge sword in its sheath. It was all heavy but I kept moving even if it was difficult. I made my way right the garage where I found the door kicked opened and Kim putting supplies into the motorcycle trunks.
Kim has wanted to take the cars but I talked get into the bikes. They were a lot easier to move with and plus they looked really cool. Without a word I tossed in the bags, one in each. Kim gave me a cloak and I put it on. I could already hear the guards trying to find us. I put the quiver on my back and then folded the bow, placing it in my cloak. The bow didn't have the best aim but I could handle it very easily.
Kim opened the garage then ran back to her bike. I got on my own bike, turned it on, and left the garage with Kim right next to me. We rode at full speed, ramming into gate. The gate wasn't that strong but we were scratched up a bit. We kept going at full speed.
The sun was beginning to set and I was grateful for it. Sun rises in the east and sets in the west. West is where we gad to go. We rode through the forest and I followed the path and took the left side at the fork on the road. There were several tire tracks on both sides so it might make it more difficult for them to follow. We rode as fast as the bikes could go, trying to put as much distance between us and them as possible.
After a couple of miles I turned off the path. We had to slow but the bike could handle rough terrain and the bike was mostly silent. We went as far as we could until it became to dark. By now I had a feeling they had to stop as well.
We went towards the thicker trees to make camp. I let Kim start the fire since she's a lot better than I was. As soon as we had enough light I began to take inventory, telling her aloud what we had while she rested.
"Six hand guns, sixth magazines with twenty-five bullets each, twenty daggers, you sword, my bow and fifty arrows. More than enough. As for supplies we have a fully stocked first aid kit, four canteens, six purifying solutions, fifty power bars, two pocket knives, and of course the cloaks." I can't help but smile. We had everything we planned on getting and there was nothing I liked more than a well executed plan. Sure, it would all be heavy but if was necessary when facing the unknown. Although I wished I could have gotten a riffle.
"Glad we have a ton of stuff. Pass me a power bar and a canteen. I'm hungry." Kim said lazily. I tossed her both and she drank the water first. I opened a power bar myself and I didn't realize I was hungry as well. After I finished eating and drinking I packed up the bikes, splitting the supplies equally.
At the moment the bikes were my main concern. They ran on solar power with a back up supply of has to ride at night. I would like to ride at night but finding fast would be difficult.
Kim was out like a light, curled up in her cloak. I put out the fire and was surprised that it wasn't completely dark like our rooms were. I looked up at the sky and smiled at the moon. It was so beautiful, soothing. I closed my eyes and laid down on the grass. It took me a while but I soon feel asleep. I didn't dream, or I don't think it was dreaming. It felt like a memory. A happy one. One I couldn't remember.
