Lights. People hovering over me. Words I can't work out. Darkness.
I blink my eyes, my vision blurry. I awaken to see my brother, Matthias, sitting beside me.
"What are you doing here? Why aren't you-" I pause feeling strange. My hands reach up to my face, my left eye, then move them down to my right arm, and finally to my left leg.
Gone. They are gone. My right eye is gone and my right arm and left leg are metal. Taken off by my step father's doing. A nurse comes in and gives me medicine. I fall asleep.
It's the hardest month of my life. Little did I know life was going to get worse. Going out in public was the worse. Matthias was there for a week after I was released from the hospital than back in the Navy. I had my two best friends, Ashley and Sarah.
I would go to the store, and people would stare at me. Some people would walk up, asking me why I looked the way I did.
"Daddy she's scary," kids would say. "Get me away from her." Some would cry. A man once asked me why I looked so "fucked up".
I wouldn't leave my room. I was depressed knowing I looked like a monster. I would have nightmares and visions.
It didn't help when I heard that my step father was never really caught.
