A/N: Sorry for any jumping between past and present tense. I do that a lot, and I'm trying to fix it! Please help me think of a title :)
"Hey," I heard a voice behind me say. I turned around, scowling when I saw Brian.
"What?" I asked sourly. Brian was the most annoying and immature guy I'd ever met.
"That's a good book," he says, "I liked it a lot." Like I cared at all.
"Whatever. Bye." I picked up my bag and headed down the hall to English. The sad thing about Brian was that if he wasn't so annoying, I might like him. He has long-ish light brown hair and bright green eyes... If only he didn't annoy the hell out of me.
I walked into English with two minutes left before class. Everyone else filed in, and the last person in closed the door. Just before the bell rang, Brian ran in and sat down in the last available seat. Unfortunately, it was next to me.
When the bell rang, our teacher, Mr. McCarthey walked in.
"Students," he said, formal as usual, "I've decided to try something new." The classroom went dead silent.
"I'm assigning a project. About poetry." This causes the class to groan and gripe. "Quiet now," he says. "Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to denote, recite and perform a poem of your choosing. In all, there will be eight recitations and performances."
Quickly, everyone did the math. Sixteen students, eight performances... PAIRS? I just hoped I didn't get Brian.
And then I hoped I didn't jinx my chances.
"Amy and Nick," Mr. Carthey says. My best friend smiles and looks at her boyfriend. They should recite a romantic poem! I'd have to tell Amy later. "Perrie and Jack, Maria and Erin, Cassie and Brian..." My teacher goes on, but I hear nothing else. Me and BRIAN, do a PROJECT? TOGETHER? This was gonna go up in flames.
"My house. After school," I say to Brian and walk out.
