"Where am I?!" Complete darkness with an ominous echo of silence. The endless abyss went on and on until suddenly a huge red flame surrounded the poor girl."Help me!" She shouted, scared out of her mind. Dark figures chanted odd dialects unknown to the poor victim. The flames began growing and suddenly -
"Kya!" The girl awakened, her dark curls all in her face.
"What; where am I?" Kya said, her voice filled with total confusion.
"Miss Wulff, however boring you might find my English class-" The old woman was interrupted by a pale brown haired girl, her head partly shaved.
"But Mrs. Mott, it's the last day of scho-"
The grey haired woman stopped her in return and said in a irritated tone, "Miss Trisha Vega, you should never miss out on a opportunity on learning. Well in my day children..." She started to ramble on, her icy blue eyes cold as she looked at her students.
"There she goes again." Trisha whispered to Kya, who nodded, still frazzled from her terror.
"Same dream again?" Asked Trisha in a comforting voice.
"I really don't understand. It's the fourth time this week!" Answered Kya.
"Maybe you should get a counselor." Trisha said jokingly.
"Shut up Trish; I'm not crazy!" Kya replied, anger laced in her tone.
DING! The bell sounded, and the class started up with a roar.
"Stop everyone; sit down! The bell doesn't dismiss you, I do!" The loud running of students in the hallway could be heard from the classroom. A tall, rough looking boy screamed out,
"Then why the fuck do we have a bell, lady!?" The angry old woman turns to the class and smiles, the look terrifying in the eyes of every student.
"Oh, alright, you all can leave. Except you, dear boy. You will stay with me for a detention." She spoke in an eerily calm voice. The whole class squeezed out of the door like a horde of animals running from their predator.
"So, got any plans for this summer?" Trisha asked as she slammed her locker closed.
"No, I'm just stuck here. How about you?" Kya replied with a sigh.
"Well, I'm going to Europe for the summer!" Trisha said excitingly.
Kya sighed. "You're gonna miss my adoption day."
"Sorry I'm really sorry! I'll video chat with you I promise! I gotta go, bye!" Trish said hurriedly, leaving the bronze girl at her locker. Kya walked through the trashed halls of her seemingly abandoned high school.
Trish is traveling Europe and I'm stuck in Gulfport, Mississippi! She thought to herself with a sigh. The dark haired girl walked out of the empty school and hopped on her light red bicycle. She rode through the grey city, heading home. She soon arrived at her apartment building, the large landlord sitting on the steps like usual.
"Hey, princess." Spoke the large man, his voice deep and grumbly.
"Hi, Mr. Rodgers." Kya replied with a smile.
"Please don't forget to tell your mom that her rent is three weeks late and I can't postpone it much longer." Reminded Mr. Rogers, a sad tone in his voice.
"Will do." Kya replied, walking up the chipping stairs. She held onto the rusty railing, a piece of the building that had been there since it was built. She unlocked the chipped blue door and walked in.
"Hello? Mom?" Kya shouted. No answer. She probably took an extra shift at the diner. She needs to rest; she works too hard. She thought to herself. Kya dropped her bag at the door and walked to her small room, laying on her creaky bed. She plugged in her headphones, trying to drown out the dream that kept replaying in her head.
