Alpha's Weakness

Chapter 3

As i promised my wolf, when i got home i went on a long run. It felt great to stretch out my legs a and push my strength until i was panting for breath. SInce in was in my wolf form, she had the most control over my thughts.

How much longer until we get a mate of our own? I'm tired of waiting...

Sighing, i tried to reason with my wolf that it wasn't my fault we hadn't met our mate yet. The rest of the run went on like this. Comparing my friends' lives to ours and always comming up dissapointed.

"Well, i've tried dating before but every time i kiss someone, you flip out!" i pointed out to my wolf. Even though i understood where she was coming from, seeing that the only guy for us was our mate, she had to be reasonable. I shifted back into my human form before she could make a snotty remark.

Right as i got back home i was put into cleaning mode. Why did the house always seem the messiest when company was comming over for dinner? By the time dinner was ready, chicken, rice assorted vegies, and bread i looked like a mess. Especially since i never got the chance to clean up after my run.

"Daniel! Don't eat all the food!" My mother said as she swatted his hand away from the bread rolls. Daniel just took an extra scoop of rice instead.

"I'm a growing boy mom, i need my food."

"At 6' 7" i would hardly say you need to keep growing. Pretty soon well have to put up taller doors." My dad grunted between eating.

"Danny, one day will i be as big as you?" My little cousin Elliot said.

"Not if you don't finish your vegetables." My Uncle Frank responded almost automatically. I chuckled to myself noticing this.

"That's right!" My Aunt Diane said as she scooped a spoonful of brocoli onto Elliot's plate earning a cringe from the cute 6 year old.

From there, dinner conversation continued for a while. We have dinner with my mom's brother's family at least once a week. Now that it was nice out, we were eating everything cook-out style on our patio table.

For me though, dinner didn't end until about half an hour later then it should of. This was because i got the "special" job of making Elliot eat his vegies and then i had to clean the dishes. Once everyone left i showered and crawled onto the couch with my mom under our softest afgahn. It was made of buffalo skin wich was incredibly soft. Most of the time i ended up asleep whenever i was covered with it.

Sooner or later it became Saturday morning. Even though it was april vacation, i still felt weighed down by the upcomming finals i had to study for.

Thankfully, a pack meeting was going to be held at Alpha's house tonight at 7 so that distracted me from my books. It was called urgently so every one was onedge expecting the worst, that the North East pack was making new laws and that they would force us to follow. The North East pack has been the strongest pack in North and South America for centuries upon centuries. Their Alpha, Brandon, was extremely strong and people thought of him as the devil in many ways. He has taken many lands from us, used them until they were on the brink of death, and then given them back to us just to take them away again once my mom and dad had healed them.

Being my parent's daughter, i got one of the seats in the front row. As soon as i walked in i heard Veronica mumbel under her breath, "Plug your noses everyone, the skunk is here."

It was immediatley followed by chuckles even though the joke was as old as i was. I got the sad nickname from the colors of my wolf. I am a dark-chocolate bron wolf with a white crescent starting on my neck and flowing to my shoulders. If you looked at it when i was running, it almost seemed to be moving. For a few years i had questioned my parents about this but they kept saying it was my birth mark. But i never had such a mark when i was in my human form. Now whenever i being the topic up it is quickly brushed off. So i don;t really pay too much attention to it now. Except for moments like this when Veronica, the beta's daughter pointed it out.

Let me just say this, Veronica is not one of the most liked girls in school. However, because of her rank in the pack, we all have to put up with her. To tell her off would recieve serious disciplines from the Alpha and Beta.

Casting her a glare and pushing the growl back down my throat, i took my seat next to my parents. As soon as the Alpha started talking, everyon hushed down. He was extraordinary at adressing his pack and spoke with authority.

"Hello evreyone, i am sorry to interupt your April vacation so soon, but the occasion tonight is urgent. There is no need to be concerned however, this matter just needs to be taken seriously."

As he was talking, i could feel tension iin the room go from very little to so high, my wolf felt uncomfortable that her pack was so nervous. Looking around, i could see that every one else felt the same way.

"I am about to read off a list of names, if i say your name, you are to stay and talk with me after the meeting:

Randy Wiltoff

Skylar Willtoff

Peter Smith...."

As he rattled off a list of names my thoughts were moving so fast i barely heard it when he said,

"Anabell Stryker"

Everyone seemingly stopped their thoughts and looked at me. What was going on? Last time i checked i was on A+ behavior with no problems at school or around the pack. I sneaked a look at Veronica who sat rigid in her chair and was glaring at me. What was happening?!!! I glanced at my father who just gave me a small, barely noticeable nod. As soon as Alpha was done talking, we learned that a major part of our land was off limits due to a giant poisonous plant spreading too quickly to take care of in a day. I was semi- aware of this because of the phonecalls i had heard my mom and dad taking, but i never pieced it all together. It was aorund 9:30 now and very one had left except for those who were earlier called on the list.

Looking around, all i saw were people who had high rankings in the pack. But something was off, only my mom was here, not my dad. That almost never happened. I found myself asking yet again what was going on.

Since my mom was busy talking about the new plant outbreak, i had no one to talk to. That's why i was thankful when Alpha started talking again,

"Alright, so lets get down to business. I've kept you all later because i have to make sure personally that all of you are doing your job. Not that i doubt you, just pack protocall."

This seemed to go on forever, but it was really only a matter of 20 minutes before it was just me, my mom, and Alpha.

"Excuse me Alpha, but we both know that Anabell hasn't recieved the caretaking gene as I or my husband have. So she cannot help with the new outbreak." My mom spoke cautiously and with much respect. Afterall, it wasn't respectful to question an Alpha.

"yes, i know but somthing even bigger has happened. But for me to explain it, we have to take a day trip tomorrow. I will explain more then, but you have to get 2 days things together becasuse we are leaving at dawn tomorrow. I will send one of our wolves on patrol to come and escort you out of the borders."

"What? Out of the borders? But Why?" i blurted out accidentely. my mother gave me a glare and i quickly covered up for my outburst, "Sorry, Alpha" I bowed my head showing submission.

"No, no its alright Anabell, this is a suprise to you but i cannot tell you the details right now so you two just go home and get a good rest, I'm afraid we will be running for a while."

"Of course Alpha." my mom said, "What would you like me to tell Gerald?" (Gerald was my dad)

"Oh, just tell him that you will be gone for a few days, I already discussed this topic with him a long, long time ago. He will understand."

"Yes, Alpha," my mom replied.

On our way home we were both silent in thought. What was such a secret that it couldn't be talked about inside our pack territory? Was someone at risk? What could i possibly have to do with it? All of these questions turned over in my head as i packed my bag and eventually fell into a restless sleep.
