Blessings from Above

Now beyond all contradiction the lesser is blessed by the better.

Hebrews 7:7, NKJV.

It is the universal truth that the better blesses the lesser

Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray [to bless them] (Matthew 19:13).

In parabolic terms, the blesser is taller and bigger.  The lesser stoops to be blessed by the greater, or “better”; the greater blesses from a higher plane than the seeker.  The lesser looks up to seek the blesser; the blesser looks below to bless the seeker.

 Luke 24:50-51:

51 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

52 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

  Acts 1:8-11:

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Jesus the Blesser and the Better was on a higher altitude than the disciples, “the lesser,” who awaited the blessing. The blessing flowed from top down.  Blessings would not flow from a superior to an insubordinate subordinate.  If any of the disciples had chosen not to position himself with the others as they ‘stooped’ below, and had gone away to observe the scene condescendingly from the top floor of a skyscraper, would the blessings streaming down from the outstretched hands of the Master have settled on that person?  I doubt so.  Nobody looks up to bless a lesser.  Everyone looks up to worship God the Better and the Blesser.

... And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me (John 11:41).

These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee (John 17:1).

55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God

60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge... (Acts 7:55,60).

We look up to worship and pray; we look below to bless.

1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit...

4 Blessed are they that mourn...
