Chapter 2
Ashley P.O.V
Three hours, but I was still alive, and hadn't embarrassed myself yet - well except for "The Drew Incident", or probably as well as "the New Recipe". But never mind, I was alive.
The termination of the ceremony was approaching fast. Unwittingly, every speech had been given, every medal had been presented, and even songs were sung. One more procedure left, only one more procedure before the end of this glorification of warrior-hood.
"Announcements regarding each team's team leader will soon be made. Everybody can now take a seat."
"Now here's another unfamiliar system we have to adapt, I wonder who will be the first leader in our team." Cody murmured softly.
"I heard from Charles, an A-grade warrior for three years, that it was randomly selected," Louis whispered back, "So any of us can be one."
"Wait what?" The first picture I came up with was being involved in the Hunger Games movie, when all of the teenagers were waiting for the announcement, hoping that their name wouldn't be chosen.
"Ashley Collins, the female tribute of district 12!" The lady from capital announces, and that's when I know my life has come into the end.
Of course, being a team leader wasn't that bad, it was just not the thing I was familiar with. I had never been one before, actually. There wasn't any team leaders in Grade B, the coaches' were our commanders and we only have to listen to their orders.
"I'm not sure how to feel about this, I do hope Harry to be the team leader though, I have heard that he had attended leadership related courses before, and he will sure be a good one," I shrugged.
"You will be a good leader too, Ashley," Louis comforted, "it's not that bad after all, we will be there if you need us."
"Thanks," Blushing, I let out a soft chuckle. His sudden compliment surprised me a little and filled my heart with happiness afterwards, "But I'm not really anxious about being a leader, it's just - I think our team deserves a leader who has attended professional courses before, not just a random person like me."
"Let's bet whether Harry will be our team leader this year," Cody asked with a playful smirk. Predicting the future was always what he liked best.
Louis stared at Harry thoughtfully, as if he could see the script written on his face. He turned back with a shrug, "No, I don't so."
"I'll say no too, although I think he'll be brilliant," Cody said.
"Then I'll have to say yes," I said. But according to my bad luck, I knew I would make the wrong guess. Maybe it would soon be proved by the name "Ashley Collins" later in the announcement.
"Miss Ashley Allison Collins? Please come on stage," The girl in the little black dress echoed my thought, unlucky me. But since this was the third time I had been called on stage unexpectedly, I had managed to hide my shock, and focused on keeping myself from tripping over the chairs instead. Gosh, I hate this.
The moment I saw the wristband, I knew that I had turned out to be the leader of the team, how irony.
"Seven of you will be the team leaders of the year. Congratulations, I am sure you are going to do a wonderful job. Now, please accept these wristbands."
The wristband in my palm was similar as a leather belt. The buckle was in a shape of a shield, gleaming in silver. Holding the wristband suddenly made me realised the importance of responsibility. We are a team, we fight together, rise together, suffer together, we are one. Being the leader of this team, whether it was out of bad luck or it was actually meticulously planned, I would have to try my best.
