Archer's Perspective

"The party is tonight," Carter paced back and forth, "that means I need to come up with a plan by fucking tonight." He grabbed a fistful of his hair in irritation.

It was the afternoon, and while all the other students were outside eating lunch, Carter dragged me away from everyone—including Riley—to deal with his bullshit in an empty classroom.

He walked circles around the room, talking to himself. This was a waste of time, but what kind of friend would I be if I didn't stick by Carter in his time of need? Or rather—listen to him spiral about his time of need.

"Or..." I said, a little unsure, "maybe you ditch the whole party thing and just talk to him in private." I wasn't sure how he'd take it, but I couldn't let him keep spiraling over this public declaration idea.

"Talk to him in private?!" Carter yelled, eyes widening like I'd just said something stupid, "he'd just wanna fuck in private! He doesn't even give me two seconds before sucking my—"

"Okay, let's not go there." I stopped him immediately. The last thing I needed was hearing about their extracurricular activities in detail during lunch—well, not that I even got lunch, because Carter didn't let me leave.

"Fine—" he cut himself off, "wait! I got the perfect idea! Okay, you pretend to be Drew for a second, and I'll be myself."

I stared at him, completely bewildered by his insane suggestion. He wanted me to roleplay as Drew? Now he'd officially lost it.

"What? That's crazy! I'm not doing that. How about you just talk to the real Drew, not a made-up one?" I wasn't anything like Drew. I didn't talk like that, didn't act like that, and most importantly—I couldn't pretend to love someone who wasn't Riley.

"Just fucking do me this one favor, man!" he pleaded, grabbing a fistful of his hair again in frustration.

I sighed, annoyed. "Fine. But if it gets weird, we're not doing this." Carter pumped his fist into the air. "Hell yeah! You're the man!"

He stood up from the desk and walked right in front of me. "Remember. Put your Drew face on. No more mister nice guy."

I shook my head, already regretting this. "Hey Carter, what's up?" I said, forcing my voice into something more jock-like.

"He wouldn't say 'what's up,' you dumbass! He'd say 'shut up and suck my dick.' Let's redo." I put my hands up immediately. "Woah, okay, no. I'm not saying that. Not to you. That's just weird."

I barely even said stuff like that to Riley—so why would I be able to say it to my own friend? It just felt wrong. And wait—Drew actually says things like that to Carter...?

"You said you'd fuckin' help, man, so help!" Carter said desperately. I stood my ground. "No, not if you're gonna make me sound like some perverted asshole."

"But that's how he talks—"

"That's just weird. I don't want to know the perverted things you guys say in bed—"

"Actually, he says them behind the football field too—"

"Carter." I cut him off, flat. "Respectfully, you're acting insane, and I'm hungry as hell. I'm leaving." I stood up, and slung my backpack over my shoulder.

Carter blocked the door, eyes full of desperation as he pleaded, "Arch! Come on! Of course you wouldn't understand how fucking desperate I am—you have the perfect relationship with a boy who doesn't mind publicly being with you."
