**Still Valentine's Day**
NORMANI'S P.O.V
"...cos you got a dime and
its money well spent.
You ain't going nowhere.
You ain't going nowhere."
I stepped aside and chugged down my water. We had just finished sound check for today- also known as the worst day of my life. I had expected Valentine's day to be the day that Louis realizes that I am good for him and ask me out but I guess dreams are meant to be crushed, am I right? I slouched down on the leather sofa at the back stage area of the arena, biting down on my lip to prevent my tears of neglection from coming.
Carrying some bags of presents, Camila and Lauren came walking through backstage. Lauren, as the only one that knows about my feelings for Louis, promptly said: "Camz, I'll catch up with you later, k?" Nodding, Camila gave me a wave and walked to the exit, leaving Lauren and I alone.
"Hey, Mani." She greeted me stiffly, as if able to see all my insucurities. Lauren plopped down on the couch beside me, putting an arm around me. I sighed, attempting to let all my frustration out. "Look," Lauren started "I'm not gonna ask you if you're okay or not because I know the answer but trust me on this, it will get better."
I tried to believe her. Believe me, I do. "Yeah. But it's just hard, ya know." I replied "And she has no clue whatsoever about my feelings and it just sucks and I hate my life and I can't even right now." I gave an exasperated sigh and put my face in my hands. I felt Lauren softly rub my back. I continued to blab on: "I mean, I don't hate Ally. She's still amazing and I'm glad she's happy. But you know what I hate? My inability to push away my feelings."
Lauren shook her head. "Mani, it's not your fault you feel. It's part of life. One day, this will all be over and you will be okay." I nodded. Feeling tired of blabbing my feelings out, I stood up, followed by Lauren. I gave her a sentimental hug and murmured a series of thank yous.
All of a sudden, another pair came by when Lauren and I let go. It was Niall and Zayn. At the corner of my eye, I saw Lauren stiffen as redness rushed to her cheeks.
"Hey guys." Zayn and Niall said in unison, smiling.
Lauren and I greeted back. I noticed that Lauren kept her head down, staring at her maroon boots through the majority of the conversation. Niall, whose eyes looked tired and restless, looked at me briefly, possibly noticing the leftovers of my tears. Then, Zayn piped up.
"So, uh.. you guys doing anything today?"
"No. Maybe. I don't know." I replied bluntly, my voice still a bit cracky. "Just the show tonight and then thats probably it."
"Oh ok. Cool."
The awkward tension literally rose up and I could feel it. None out of the four of us were what you would catogorize as 'okay'. Maybe if I wasn't too consumed in my own feelings, I would've known whats's up with Lauren. Gosh. I feel really bad now.
"Hey, do you guys wanna go have dinner together? Like, the four of us tonight? After the show, of course." Suggested Zayn, I'm sure he was hinting something there...
Lauren, who was too stunned to speak, looked up from gazing at her shoes and said "I think I'd rather stay in, sorry."
"Lauren! Come on! It's Valentine's Day!" I cried.
"Okay, okay. But.. it's just.."
"Come on, Laurennn.."
"Okay, okay but-"
"No. No. You said okay." I stated. Then, I turned to Niall and Zayn "See you tonight, guys,"
When the boys reached a fair distance away from us, I turned to Lauren, only to see her red as a tomato. "Awww!" I cooed at her, "you're happy that Zayn asked you out rightttt?"
"What gave it away?" She asked, smiling.
"Hun, the lovey dovey tension was there and trust me, it's not just because its Valentine's Day." I replied
"Fair enough."
A feeling in my gut told me I should ask Lauren what was up; there was something off about her. I could tell.
