Camila tapped her pencil impatiently on the desk. Her eyes wandered aimlessly around the room until she spotted the small clock above the door. The teacher had taped a sign over top of the clock that read, 'This clock is not working. Are you?' Camila didn't know a single answer on her Calculus test. She had forgotten about it over the weekend and was in a rush to get out of her house before she was late.
"Why don't you just guess and get it over with?" A voice said. Camila's head shot to her right and she noticed a girl, who looked to be her age, sitting in the usually empty seat.
"Who are you?" Camila asked rather loudly.
"Mrs. Cabello! No talking while we're testing!" Her teacher, Mrs. Adams whisper yelled. Camila nodded and turned back to the girl beside her.
"Who are you?" She lowered her voice this time so Mrs. Adams couldn't hear her.
"My name is Dinah. I'm here to help you." She smiled.
"Finish my test? Please, not even your help will make me pass this thing." Camila scoffed. Dinah giggled slightly.
"No no I'll explain later." Camila cocked her head to the side.
"I've never seen you in my class before, are you new?" She bit her lip.
"I guess you could say that." Dinah chuckled.
"So when did you get here? And what's with the 'all white' clothes? Are you from far away?" Camila interrogated Dinah.
"I'll explain later, for now you need to finish your test." She nodded towards the blank paper in front of the smaller girl. Camila nodded and went back to concentrating on the test.
After about 30 more minutes of scribbling down answers the teacher collected the test papers.
"So Dinah I-" Camila stopped mid sentence when she noticed that the girl was no longer beside her. She just shrugged and turned her attention back to the board as her teacher turned on a video. The bell rang 10 minutes later and she slung her book bag over her shoulder before walking out of the door. That's when she saw her.
Camila had had a crush on Lauren since her freshman year, however, Lauren never seemed to notice Camila. No matter how many times Camila walked past her lunch table or by her locker while the girl was grabbing her books, she never even acknowledged the smaller girls presence.
Camila bit her lip and flattened her hair with her palms before making her way to the women's bathroom, which was located just past Lauren's best friend, Normani's locker. Camila strutted towards the bathroom and groaned as she passed the two girls talking. She sighed and walked into the bathroom.
"Who was that?" Camila heard a voice say. She knew that voice. It was the same girls voice from fifth period.
"No one." Camila blushed and spotted Dinah leaning against one of the stalls.
"Anyways, are you gonna tell me who you are now?" Camila questioned.
"Oh I'm Dinah." The tall girl mentioned for the second time.
"I know that silly. I mean where are you from?" Camila bit her tongue on the inside of her mouth while she patiently waited for an answer.
"I'm not from here. I'm from... very far away." Camila nodded slowly.
"Like how far?"
"Farther than you can imagine." Camila cocked her head to the side at the girls comment.
What did she mean by father than you could imagine? Camila thought to herself.
"Okay so what did you mean by-" Camila stopped herself once again to look around, in search of the girl she was just talking to.
