An alarm bellowed through the long blank corridors. I used the glow from the flashing red emergency lights to guide my path. My breathing was steady as I ran. Echoes resounded down the halls from distant voices shouting orders. At least, they started with shouting orders, then the echoes became screams of fear and pain. I guess I wasn't the only one release, that was no surprise though, the momentary power failure affected the whole unit.Down the darkened hallway five figures appeared around the corner, each holding large weapons with heavy lights on the end. "Freeze!" One shouted aloud. I kept running and the sound of gunfire suddenly joined the alarms in a deafening symphony.
The shooting hit an abrupt end as the five men were all tossed up against the wall beside them by an unseen hand. They didn't have time to register what happened and the shock was frozen on their faces. I watched as a large silhouette rounded the corner beside the fallen men and quickly took a left in to the nearest doorway. Sure I could fight, I've been raised to fight but I knew I had to get out of this wretched place first. For the past three years I've been kept here in an empty room filled with light. Not even a single small shadow was cast. I was being tested on, played with. It was my fault though, I should have known better than to trust these humans.
After scanning the small room I found a door on the far side and took off at a sprint for it. Upon opening the large wooden door i saw stairs leading up. Perfect, I thought. I flew up the stairs taking a couple at a time. The stairwell was bright and narrow but after four floors I reached the top and quickly opened the nearest door. This opened up in to a large hallway, I looked out cautiously and listened. The fall of footsteps was close and quickly falling my way. Just as I was about to take off at a sprint a large group of modern humans came in to view. They were all unarmed and all seemed petrified, they were running from something. I ran in the direction they were heading and found the primary stairwell I had been searching for. Glancing up the stair seemed as though they led off up in to infinity. A loud roaring snapped me out of my temporary daze as I saw the group catch up. They approached me cautiously, eyeing my tight white jumpsuit. They kept slowed as they approached me, their nice clothes looking wrinkled and their eyes worried. I should kill them. I thought, I was being held by people like these, it's what they deserve. Anger swelled inside of me. I reach away from the light in to a corner pulling out a long sharp black knife. Their eyes widened. Before they could screamed I had pounced. My blade ran along their throats and in to their chests in no time, leaving a bloody mess, my jumpsuit stained with red droplets. The roar echoed through the empty hallway again, closer this time, my eyes narrowed and I commenced running up the sand coloured stairs. By the sixth floor I could feel something had entered the bottom of the stairwell. I gazed over the side railing and saw a large figure sniffing around the fallen bodies. A sense of fear slowly started to build but I quickly hid it away. I couldn't let this creature know I was here. It's large muscled body circled the bodies on all fours, sniffing.
I'd seen this creature before, it was a Faen. A large eyeless psychic hunter that uses fear to hunt it's victims. Definitely something I didn't want to be stuck in here with. As soon as I began running I could almost feel its head snapping in my direction and it let out a cry as if four wolves were howling at once in the wind. It's short sharp claws scratched against the stairs and I pushed my legs as fast as they would go. I kept running, searching for the door which brought me to this damn place. The scratching was closer and I could heard that longing howl as if the spirits of the damned were chasing me. Blade tightly in hand I was prepared to turn and face this creature when I saw it. The door was right there! I reached out to it and felt the handle turning in my head as the door flew open, I jumped through and immediately turned to slam the large heavy door shut. A large thud hit it immediately thereafter making a large dent in the door. Soon more pounding sounded against the door until there was just silence aside from the alarms. I began to count, if this thing was getting in, then I wanted to be ready. A loud howl sounded from outside the door and the sound of the alarm was again the only noise.
I got up off my feet and ran, recalling the hallways and paths I was taken down off by memory. A few guards had gotten in my way trying to contain the issue but were quickly disposed of. I ran up one last flight of stairs and plowed through a door to be greeted by the blowing wind and the cold polluted night air, the. I looked around the harsh area, desert all around and we were surrounded by large rocky hills. Plain buildings shone bright lights an all around me humans in fine dress were running. Others drove around with large guns on the back of their vehicles while others ran in groups with set faces, weapons in hand. I turned away, facing the mountains. The sky was clear and the moon was bright, they looked different from a far. I began to head to the mountains, taking off in to the clear night as all hell broke loose at the base behind me.
