'Hey everyone!' Gabe called out into the mic. 'Welcome back to a brand new school year!'

Everyone cheered, and random people smacked their hands on the table to create a drumroll.

'For us seniors, this is really the last chance. The last chance to participate in activities, the last chance to cheer at sports meets, the last chance to shine and be noticed. So let's embrace the new year and make the most of it!'

More cheers sounded, and Piper found herself nodding along to his words. He was right. Last chance to make something of herself.

'Anyways, some housekeeping matters and announcements.' Taking out his paper and referring to it, Gabe continued. 'Cheerleading tryouts will be held...'

Tuning out, Piper began to silently eat her food, turning away from Gabe. Those announcements never involved her anyways. She listened to the murmurs and chattering around her, relishing in this place that she called a second home.

She heard Gabe clear his throat, seemingly done with the announcements, and turned back to watch him.

'Now it has come to my attention that it's only the first day of school and some of you have already been spotted in... Compromising positions. It would serve us all greatly if you guys didn't do the unmentionables in school, I'm sure you don't want to be caught when someone walks in. You really don't have to christen all the tables for us.'

Some people burst out laughing, while others laughed along nervously. Piper smiled slightly. So he remembered his promise.

'Well that's it. Have a great day dudes, see you around.' With that, Gabe stepped off the podium to a small round of applause and made his way to his table.

Piper watched him as he walked, willing him to suddenly turn around and spot her. But of course he didn't. Sighing, she turned back to her food.

'So... You like him, eh?' Julie whispered softly so only Piper could hear.

Piper whipped around so fast she actually smacked herself in the face with her hair. 'No? I don't like him.' She said defensively as she nursed her stinging cheek.

'And yet you know exactly who I was talking about without me saying.' Juliet raised her eyebrows at Piper.

Piper flushed. 'No! I don't like him.' Damn.

'Sure, be in denial, see where that gets you.' Her best friend gave her an evil grin.

'I don't like him. Really!' Piper argued. It was true. She had vowed not to like guys so easily or ever be the first to confess to a guy, having been brutally rejected in the past. As far as she was concerned, guys were assholes as boyfriends. She'd much rather just stick with having them as normal friends. Speaking of guy friends...

'PIPER!'

Piper watched warily as Dash ran over to their table exaggeratedly, his arms wide open, as if to hug her. As soon as he got too close, she reached her palm out and pushed his face away. 'No.'

'Oh come on, Piper. You know you wanna hugga hug me!' Dash cried in a gay voice.

Piper gave him a strange look. What was it with her guy friends and their ultra-gay vocabulary today?

Sensing that she wasn't on her guard, Dash pounced and wrapped his arms around her waist, laying his head gay-ly in her shoulder. Sighing in defeat, Piper smacked his head lightly.

'Hello to you too, Dash.' Juliet said dryly, hiding a smile as Dash turned to her, looking embarrassed. She'd noticed that he often forgot about others' presence when Piper was around. Now what would that mean?
