3rd Person's P.O.V
Kakashi and Sakura came wandering into the clearing, searching for the missing members of team 7.
"Hey guys, up here!"
They looked up, amazed at the height Naruto had reached.
"Don't forget about me," Y/n called lazily, laying peacefully on a tree-branch adjacent from Naruto's.
Naruto tricked the others down below, almost falling before Y/n caught him by the leg.
"Okay Sasuke can I get a little bit of help, Naruto's kinda heavy for me."
Kakashi stood, still one-legged and smiled at his team. Seem's like they're growing and getting stronger. Maybe they'll be okay after all.
---------------------------------
It was a whole day before they all reached the top. Y/n got it considerably faster than the boys, due to the lack of chakra, and their strange magic system the author has yet to properly explain. Regardless, they all did it. And they were all starving by the time they dragged themselves back to Tazuna's house for dinner.
They staggered in, all holding each other up, definitely looking a bit worse for wear.
"From now on, you can guard Tazuna too." Kakashi's announcement certainly made Naruto and Sasuke happy. Y/n didn't hear it because they were too busy shovelling food into their mouth, starved of food since they'd run out of snacks a quarter way through training.
After every morsel of food had made it off the plate and into their hoover-like mouthes, Tazuna had the pleasure of announcing his almost-completion of the bridge.
Y/n stilled. They'd almost forgotten about what was coming up soon. The bridge...
"Why are you still guarding me, even though I lied about the mission."
Kakashi spoke first, after a small exchange of looks between the kids in team seven. They had wondered that initially too.
"To see what is right without doing it bespeaks an absence of courage."
"Facts."
Kakashi shot a look at Y/n who grinned sheepishly and shrugged, muttering "I was helping!" under their breath.
"This was a teaching of the late hokage."
Y/n glanced at Naruto, aching to tell him that'd been his father's words. But knew they couldn't. Not yet, at least.
Inari started crying. "Why... Why do you work so desperately like that? You'll never be a match for Gato's men, even if you trained! No matter what cool things you say, or how much effort you make... it's all for nothing. It doesn't matter. The weak always lose against the really strong!"
Naruto looked away, "shut up kid, I'm not like you."
Inari stood up, pushing his chair away, "who do you think you are?! You don't know anything about this place! I'M not like YOU, who's always acting silly, what do you know about pain?!"
The room went silent. All eyes were on Inari and Naruto, who tensed.
"So what, are you just gonna cry like a lead in a tragedy? An idiot like you would just cry all day... crybaby."
"Naruto! That's a bit harsh!" Sakura interjected. Y/n watched Naruto as he left the room, and then Inari, as he ran out the door in the other direction.
Nobody spoke. Until Y/n broke the silence.
"I admire Naruto more than anyone else in the world," they said softly, looking at Tazuna and Inari's mum. Sasuke winced as he heard this, although he wasn't quite sure why he hated hearing it so much.
