"Amnesia," the doctor confirmed.
He shook his head in sympathy for the poor girl before writing down a few things. He turned to the twenty-five year old man beside him. "I'm afraid your fiancé has amnesia. We're not entirely sure if this is long term or short term, but from the trauma she has been through, it may be long term." He paused and glanced at the patient one last time before putting a comforting hand on his shoulder. "I'll leave you two alone for a moment."
Once he stepped out of the room, Niall Horan turned around to the utterly confused young woman lying in the bed. His heart completely shattered at the sight of her. Although the doctors worked tirelessly to treat her, the ghosts of her wounds still scattered around her body. It took everything in him not to crumble in a blithering, frustrated mess. The only thing that stopped him were her two sparkling green eyes that he fell in love with. The eyes that were once so bright and full of life were now clouded with darkness and confusion.
"Hello," she simply greeted. Her voice was raspy, but it still held that soft tone he loved dearly.
Forcing a smile he stepped forward slightly. "Hi Sage," he answered. Confusion wiped across her face as she cocked her head to the right.
"Who?"
"That's your name. Sage Aralyn Evans," he chuckled softly. He stood at the end of her bed as he gripped the bed post tightly.
"Right," Sage nodded her head, trying to make sense of the situation right now.
She tucked back a piece of her hair behind her ear and looked up at the handsome man in front of her. Her eyes took in every detail of him she could manage. She noticed his blonde hair had flecks of light brown peeking through it and that his skin was pale as if it had never kissed the warmth of the sun. And his lips, she thought they were the most perfect shade of pink, even if they were half hidden from the way he was biting them. Sage also noticed the dark circles that hung around his eyes and she could tell he had many nights deprived of sleep. Yet the faint laugh lines that were etched into his face seemed to contrast those dark circles.
But his eyes were what intrigued her the most.
Those eyes were the first thing she noticed when she woke up. They were bright and blue. It reminded her of a clear sky that she saw from her window, clear without a single cloud. They were almost hypnotizing, as if she never wanted to look away from them.
She has never seen eyes like those before. She would've remembered.
Taking her eyes off of him, she looked around her surroundings before turning back to Niall. "What's the date today?"
"August eleventh," he answered as she noticed his definite Irish accent.
"Where are we?"
"The Fairview Hospital in London, England."
"And my parents?"
"They're back in our hometown in Ireland. They're on their way over here to see you."
"Then who are you?" she asked.
Surely the person had some connection with her. He had been the only one in the room when she woken up earlier that morning. A brother perhaps? Or maybe a close friend. But with the pained expression he held on his face she sensed that they were something more. But why couldn't she remember it? Her mind was left as blank as a plain sheet of paper.
"My name is Niall. Niall Horan."
She nodded her head slowly waiting for something to trigger in her mind, but nothing came out. "And how do we know each other?"
