I snatched the book from Reese and went back into my room and took out my phone. I created a new contact in my phone for this number and named it M.

Oh my God I can't believe this is legitimately happening.

I started typing..

me: earth changed in the black sky..

Sent.

m: it caught fire

"Hey," Reese knocked on the door and my head shot up. "Mals, open the door! Why did you run out like that?"

"Sorry! Sorry, Reese, I just have to do some homework I forgot about. It's due tomorrow and I really need to get it done."

"Oh.. Well okay," her voice still sounded a little annoyed. "I have to go now so I can make my shift down at Brandy's. You better not be lying to me, Mals. I always find out whatever shit you're hiding." she laughed.

I laughed back, "Okaaaay," I said in a mocking voice. "Byeee."

"Bye, doofus."

I heard her keys jingle and her shoes cream the wood floors before I heard the door shut.

I looked back down at my phone which had buzzed a few times while I was talking to Reese.

me: hi! sorry i got busy for a sec

m: its alright but srsly who dis

me: i'm mallie

m: uh?? elaborate

me: i found your number in the martian chronicles??

m: oh yeah cool

m: i could've figured that out from the quote

me: who're you, m?

m: michael :0)

me: hi michaaael

michael: hi maaaaal

me: nicknames already?

michael: im automatically already best friends with anyone who likes the Martian chronicles

me: haha :P

me: so michael, u travel? your note said you needed a book buddy :)

michael: yeah, im in a band. we're on tour now actually

me: woah, thats cool. i love music. whats your bands name? :0))

michael: it isnt important

michael: whats important is that you found my note :D

me: yeah! now we can be book buddies :--D the martian chronicles is my fav book

me: have u gotten any other messages?

michael: nope, ur the first

me: cool, so you dont leave notes in books all over the world then? haha

michael: nope just at that one library :)

me: why just that one library

michael: its my favorite library

michael: oo, i love the new nickname
