RYDER'S POV

Dust drifted around my boots as I walked down the barren city ruins. I bet this place used to be such a beautiful city full of life and people. Now, no living thing dwelled there because of the Infected Ones. In my thoughts of reflection I heard a scuffle to my far right. Alert, I slowly did a 360 turn as I unsheathed my sword. Several humanoid black masses leapt out and cackled with malice as they started to circle around me, both of us ready to attack.

I calculated their pattern of attack, just like I had been taught by my mother a long while ago. These Infected Ones seemed to be only recently infected, seeing as they were a deep indigo colour instead of a dark onyx like the fully developed ones. They were young so their attacks would be rash and rough. Better to make the move first before I lost a flipping limb. I slashed at the beings, cuttings two of them to ribbons with my swift attacks. The other three l lunged at me wanting my flesh. I jumped backwards leaving them to dive into the dust. They had started kicking eachother believing the other one was me.

The dumb shits.

Using their fight and the dust as a cover I snuck up behind them in utter silence and in one long swoop i cut off both their heads off. Their bodies corroded into a onyx mist, just like the other two and disappeared into the air.

I sheathed my sword, glad the battle was over and that four more Infected Ones were gone from this country. I walked on into the heart of the city ruins. My senses were alert and sharp, ready for anything. Who knows what could be out there.

At that moment I heard a paniked cry and a cackling ahead of me. A survivor? How rare. I rushed over to the site to immediately find two dark onyx Infected Ones hunting for a young boy about my age. He had a paniked look in his eye as if he had never met an Infected One face to face.

And of course I jumped right into battle.
