calum sat on the edge of his bed, threading his skinny legs into the holes of his jeans. calum frowned as he buttoned them up, lines furrowing their way across his forehead and his lips forming into a pout. he didn't like having to wear his jeans to school. he wanted to wear his pretty clothes.

calum's pout was quickly replaced by a small grin, encouraged by the thought that the small boy hadn't checked his horoscope today. calum scrambled for his phone, navigating his way onto the zodiac app.

calum sat down on the edge of his bed, eyebrows creased in concentration as he began to read.

saturns influence will encourage you to embrace your inner self. do not be frightened of showing those around you who you truly are, but have faith that they will accept and nurture the change that they see in you. venus is also very prominent today, so be on the lookout. that special someone may just make themselves known today.

calum felt his cheeks flush and tried hard to suppress a giggle. he reached over to his bed side table to grab his flower crown, holding it delicately so as not to break it.

calum folded his legs underneath him as he sat before his mirror. delicately, and with shaking fingers, calum placed the crown of daises atop his head.

looking at his reflection, calum felt his insides dance with excitement. the flower crown was so cute. feeling encouraged, calum searched his pastel jewellery box for his cryolite necklace. not as pretty as his other clothes, but it would have to do. one step at a time.

calum leapt down the stairs, fumbling at the bottom. as he reached the door, he let out a soft squeal as he felt someone's fingers brush against his own.

"cal?" his older sister, mali-koa, looked at him. her brown eyes were a mixture of concern and affection, just as they were every time she looked at her little brother.

"yeah?" calum replied, growing nervous. mali looked even more worried than she usually did.

mali smiled, a beautiful smiled that erased the signs of concern. calum thought his sister was the most beautiful person he knew.

"nothing," she replied, still smiling.

calum furrowed his eyebrows at the older girl. "so why are you smiling so much?" did mali think he looked silly?

"you just-" mali started. "you just look really nice, cal. i hope you have a good day today."

calum smiled and bashfully shook his head.

"i love you, mali," he whispered, not looking up at her.

"i love you too cal."
