Ivory sat across from Hannibal as he opened his notebook. "Now Ivory, how old are you?"
"Ten." Ivory said.
"That is far too young to be without parents."
"I have parents." Ivory said.
"Where are they then?" Hannibal asked.
"They travel to make more money."
"Why didn't they take you with them?" Hannibal asked.
"So I can tell them how much the bill for us to stay here is." Ivory said.
Hannibal looks up. "How do you do that?"
"Mail."
"I see." Hannibal writes something down. "Lets talk about you. Were you scared to be alone?"
"I was sad, but not scared." Ivory said. "And very bored."
"Why weren't you scared?" Hannibal asked.
Ivory shrugged. "Just wasn't."
"When I was your age, I was very scared of many things. What do you fear?"
"You all leaving me." Ivory admitted.
"Abandonment." Hannibal mumbled. "Do you know what a job is?"
"Like a doctor."
"Exactly." Hannibal nods. "You see all these people you took in, they don't have jobs but we need money to stay here."
"How are they getting money?" Ivory asked.
"We get them from kind people." Hannibal lied. "They give us money to care for you."
"That's nice."
"Do you go to school Ivory?"
"No." Ivory said. "Dad said teachers are mean, they hit kids."
Hannibal smiled. "Your father was correct. Are you ok with staying here with all of us instead of going to school."
"Yes of course! No one here will hit me."
"Can you read?"
"Not big words, but smaller ones. My mom use to show me how to read."
"Can you count?"
"Of course, I had to count money." Ivory said. "I also cook but Tiffany said I don't have to do anymore."
"Well children your age don't usually cook full three meals a day. They need to focus on playing and trusting their friends."
"I trust everyone here. I still have some rooms left, maybe more will come and the whole place will be full." Ivory said.
"I have another thing to ask. Do you know that there is something every single one of us have in common?" He asked carefully.
"Some where masks, some don't talk, and some say words Tiffany said I shouldn't say."
Hannibal looked satisfied as he closed the notebook. "Why don't you go play."
"Are you gonna play too?" Ivory asked.
"I will play with you anytime, but I want to finish my writing first." Hannibal told her.
Ivory got off the chair and walked out.
Hannibal smiled. "This is too easy."
