I sat on the white, leather couch in my living room watching tv as my sister slept in her room soundly. My parents were having a date night tonight and unlike every other teen in my town on a normal Friday night, I was stuck at home babysitting my seven-year old sister. It was around nine at night and my parents were supposed to be getting home from Denté's, the restaurant they were at, in an hour. I sighed before turning off the tv. May as well check on Mara. I got up and walked up the stairs to her room.
I opened her bedroom door and peaked in to see her sleeping soundly under her My Little Pony sheets. I smiled softly at her before closing her door quietly. She's such a sweet kid...only when she's not hyper. I walked to my room and changed into a t-shirt and shorts for bed. Before I could lay down under my comfortable white sheets and brown comforter, the power suddenly went out. "Damn it...", I muttered, stumbling my way to my desk and grabbing my emergency flashlight.
At least Mara isn't awake, she's afraid of the dark. I turned on the tv and walked downstairs to the first floor. Walking through the living room and the kitchen, I walked down the basement stairs where the generator stayed. My dad taught me how to fix the generator in case this ever happened. Good thing he did. It's not fun sitting in the dark for an hour.
I opened the box and flashed everything with my flashlight. Well that's odd... I furrowed my eyebrows as I flipped the switch to the main power back on, allowing the dark to diminish against the overwhelming light. I turned off my flashlight and widened my eyes as I saw a couple of men standing in front of me. Before I could scream, however, one of them hit me with a metal baseball bat as the other grabbed hold of me. I blacked out instantly.
