Chapter 2

Before I could scream, however, one of them hit me with a metal baseball bat as the other grabbed hold of me. I blacked out instantly.

When I woke up, I tried to sit up but hit my head against something hard and metal. Are those bars? I moved my hands around and felt around me. I seemed to be in a small cage...a dog cage?!? My drowsiness immediately went away and I became aware of my surroundings. Everything was dark but I could faintly make out more cages around me where whimpering and crying came from.

Oh my God...I'm not alone here. What's going on?? Why are we in cages??? Why are we here??? Where are we??? Suddenly, I heard what sounded like a lock unlock and a door open.

Light shined in on us as a man in a lab coat stepped forward and turned on the bright light. "Good morning mutts. Sleep well?", he chuckled maliciously before shutting the large metal door behind him and it immediately locking as it shut. It seemed to only open with a key card... The man glanced around until his eyes met mine. He grinned and started walking towards my cage, causing me to move back in fear. Unfortunately, the cage was small and I couldn't move back too far.

He stopped in front of my cage and said, "So, we have a new one eh? Not a mutt just yet. Well we'll fix that, don't you worry sweetie.", the greasy man grinned, "I think you'd be a pretty little chocolate lab." He laughed and nodded to himself before walking away. Mutt? What does he mean??? I looked around at the cages around me and nearly screamed at what I saw... (A/N: My version of hybrids is a bit different than most people's so please don't comment that it's wrong because this is how I make hybrids.) Kids...some looked like they were supposed to be my age but they were so small... they had ears and tails too.

They whimpered and cried like cats, dogs, and other animals too. The cage next to me contained a Dalmatian puppy that had human eyes? She sadly pushed a toy ball around with her nose as she laid in the cage. In the cage on my other side, there was a boy with bunny ears and a fluffy tail. He was laying in the cage numbly, as if nothing mattered anymore. In the final cage that I could see into, which was across from me on another long table, there was a girl with cat and tail that was playing with a ball of string.

When she launched out to attack it, she turned into a calico??? Oh my God. Is that what he meant by mutt??? These people are half animal and half human! Is he going to make me one of them??? He did say something about me being a pretty chocolate lab...

That's a dog... He's going to turn me into a dog! I started to look for an escape. There has to something here to help me get out! The lock on the cage was a latch with a padlock attached to it. There's no alternative here!

I'm trapped! Between the lock on the cage, the key card lock for the metal door, and the man in the lab coat in here, there's no way out. The man and three orderly-looking men began walking back towards my cage, causing me to crawl back again. The man unlocked my cage and the orderlies grabbed my shirt- I noticed that I was still in my pajamas from before- and pulled me out. They began dragging down the aisle behind the man towards a door. They dragged me into the room, my eyes widening at what I saw.

The room was bloodstained with an operating table with restraints for feet and hands attached to it. Beside the table was a tray of operating tools, including a multitude of syringes and in the far side of the room was a cabinet full of bottles of many different liquids. "LET ME GO!!!!!", I screamed, causing the man to smirk as the orderlies dragged me over to the table and strapped me down as I struggled to get away. "Oh. So the little one speaks eh? Well we'll fix that.", the man said, grabbing a gag and forcing it into my mouth. I screamed into the gag and struggled. He hummed a tune as he walked over to the cabinet and grabbed a couple of bottles.

Walking back over to the table, he started to fill two of the syringes with the liquids before sticking them in me in various places. I screamed into the gag as he did. It was so painful and I could feel a burning sensation as the liquid ran through my veins.

An hour later I was barely conscious. I was in so much pain. He had just finished operating on me and the orderlies were now taking the restraints off me as he wiped off my blood from his tools. He turned to me and smirked as I groaned in misery. "Aw, don't worry. You'll be just fine mutt.", he laughed before nodding his head at the orderlies. They dragged me off out of the room and back through the aisle.

When they got to my cage, they threw me in and closed the door, locking it. My eyes in slits, I watched as they walked off to another cage that contained a boy with fox ears and tail. I directed my attention away from him and thought about the one thing I saw on one of the bottles that contained the liquid put in me as I blacked out. Black Lab Dog Breed DNA.
