Today was the dreaded day they had to read out their project to the class. Faye was nervous but less so, knowing she would have Kat by her side the whole time. The pair had been texting back and forth, discussing details about the project. Knowing what happened last time, Kat had offered to read the majority of it, which Faye was extremely grateful for.
They had both agreed to meet at the front of the school, seeing as the presentation was during their first class.
"Hey." Faye greeted her friend who was stood waiting, leant against the wall of the school.
"Morning." Kat said as she pulled the small girl into a hug, "You ready?"
"Scared." Faye responded.
"You'll be okay, you've got me." Kat assured her.
They headed off to their class and proceeded to their seats on the back row. Faye put her bag on the desk arm folded her arms on top, resting her head on top to hide her face.
She was nervous to say the least, terrified actually. After last time when she ran out, it had scared her. She copied what her therapist had taught her, counting backwards from ten whilst simultaneously breathing deeply to calm herself down.
Kat stroked Fayes' long brown hair in an attempt to soothe the girl, she wrapped her arms around the girl, leaning her head on her shoulder.
"I'll read most of it, I promise, but you have to read some or she'll fail you." Kat whispered into the small girls ear.
Faye nodded, pushing the girl off her and sitting up in her seat. She turned to the black haired girl, looking into her hazel eyes, smiling as she studied their depth.
Kat grabbed Fayes shaky hand and held it under the table, squeezing it for reassurance.
They listened as others in the class presented their projects, it was boring but also insightful, everyone had chosen such different topics.
"Kat, Faye, you're up." Miss Pugh instructed the girls.
Kat was the first to stand up, giving Faye a small nod, encouraging her to follow. The pair reached the front of the class, their papers to read from in Kats hand. The smaller girl stood slightly behind Kat, hiding almost from the eyes of their piers.
Kat began reading their work, Faye in an almost trance at her words. Faye watched how the taller girls mouth moved as she spoke, gracefully, never a sharp movement. She admired how her dark hair flowed over one shoulder, the tall girl having pulled it to one side before she began reading.
Faye was nudged out of her admiration and passed papers by Kat, sensing the girl hadn't been listening Kat made sure she pointed out where the where up to.
Faye looked up at the girl, who smiled down at her encouragingly. She took a deep breath and began the small section Kat had given her to read.
When she had read it she could finally breathe again, she passed the papers back to Kat who continued to read their piece. Faye looked down at her feet, smiling slightly that she was able to complete the reading without panicking.
The pair sat down after their presentation, Faye unable to control the smile now protruding her face.
"I'm proud of you, babe." Kat grabbed her hand and squeezed it reassuringly.
It was now lunch time and Faye has to go to speak to her teacher regarding running out during last Fridays presentation. Kat had agreed to wait for her outside, calming Fayes nerves slightly.
She looked up to see the small girl stood there timidly, "Come here, sit down."
She directed the brunette to a chair at the side of her desk. Faye sat down, as directed, and waited for the teacher to address her.
