Lily is all smiles today. I see her, beaming at me, down the corridors, surrounded by her usual group of friends, and I can't help but grin back. Last night's date was an important bridge to a new kind of friendship, the kind that could potentially become something -
"Ah, she really likes you, don't you think so, Padfoot?" Remus says lightly as we head to Herbology class.
"Mmmmmh." Sirius answers grumpily. He's been like that ever since I returned from my date around two in the morning and counted them how well it went, and all of them congratulated me, but as usual, Sirius thinks this is the end of our friendship or something."Don't you think so, Padfoot?" Moony repeats, glaring at him.
"Ah, Moony, let him be, he's sulking." I answer lightly. "Sirius is in one of his possessive moods again, and I won't let that ruin my -""Possessive?" Padfoot exclaims, "POSSESSIVE! You're the one that's abandoning us, of course I'm mourning the loss of my best mate, don't you even -"
"Calm down, Black. Have I ever complained when you were on your multiple dates?"
"Yes."
"Liar."
"Yeah well my dates didn't involve abandoning my friends for some girl not only during the evening but also during MEALS and CLASSES and HOMEWORK. Also, I don't look so stupid whilst flirting."
"Ahem," said Remus. Peter sniggered.
Sirius looked haughty. "Oh, you can laugh now, but look how serious he's been about her... Sooner or later he'll leave us, I guarantee you... and that will be good-bye to the Marauders..."
Wormtail's eyes widened. "Is this the end of the, the...""No it isn't, stupid," I interrupt,"Sirius just can't accept the fact that I finally dated Evans and it went really well and that maybe we'll become something mo-"
"Ugh, James, you depress me," Sirius groans dramatically. "Now I suggest we all hurry up, Sprout doesn't like us to be late."
And with that, he runs across the grounds as Remus watches him fondly.
"He's one of a kind, isn't he?"
"He's a conceited git, that's what he is," I reply and Moony laughs, nodding in approval.
Greenhouse nine is already crowded at our arrival, yet I manage to sneak myself through the students and stand next to Lily, whose wild red hair dances in the Autumn breeze that blows from the open windows.
"Hi James," she says, her cheeks turning red.
"Good afternoon, Lily," I reply, pretending not to notice.
It's a simple hello from her but ah, the mere notion of her enjoying my presence..."Did you get some sleep last night?"
"As a matter of fact, I did. You didn't impress that much as to deprive me from sleep, thanks very much."
I smile, cockily. There she is, trying to act as if she doesn't care, but oh! I know better.
"Oh yeah? Care to go on a date again?""You said one, we had one. That was our deal."
"But, I mean, now that we're friends and..."
"Friends don't date.""They don't dance either."
That hits her. I see her blush again, to my delight, and brush away a lock of her hair as I mouth in her ear, "All in good time, Evans." She slaps me away, playfully.
