"Here's your latte, enjoy," I smiled to the customer in front of me. As soon as he left, I let out a ragged breath. I tried to sneak a glance into the kitchen, where Kaili and her colleagues were baking sweets, but my view was blocked by Brooklyn, today's coffee maker. He noticed me trying to look past him, and shot me a weird look. "What, am I not interesting enough?" he joked, and I laughed.

The day was almost over, and I couldn't be happier, since my vacation week was coming up. Me and Kaili planned on spending it together, doing God-knows-what. My mom wasn't too fond of the idea, but I couldn't understand why.

I could tell she was a little confused when I came back from my sleepover at Kaili's when I told her I would not, a week earlier. After I explained what had happened, she suddenly turned white and excused herself, saying she had a call to make. I shrugged it off and spend the rest of the day in my room.

"Do you have a ride home?" Brooklyn asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Yeah, Kaili's taking me," I told him.

Brooklyn was a really sweet guy. Apart from being the best person this world has ever known, he was pretty much ordinary. He worked here every day other than Wednesday and Sunday. He had black hair and gray eyes. He was a handsome boy, actually. And particularly nice, too.

"Alright then," he said, smiling, "See you tomorrow."

I nodded towards him and walked into the locker room. I put my apron away and took my bag. Then, I went into the kitchen, to find Kaili. She was looking into the oven, probably observing how the cake was growing. I cleared my throat to make my presence acknowledged.

"Oh, hi," Kaili said, looking taken back.

"Hi, are you ready?" I asked, confused.

Kaili sighed, her sad eyes scanning my face. "Look, Luna, I'm sorry, Dean called me last minute telling me that we got a birthday cake order for tomorrow first thing in the morning and begged me to stay in and finish it. He said he'll pay me extra. You can wait if you want to, but know that it's going to take a while, I have this crazy decorations to make."

I smiled understandingly at her and said, "It's okay, I can walk, but I thought we were a coffee shop," I joked, lightening the mood. "What's with all the sweets lately?"

"I don't know," Kaili laughed. "I think Dean has this whole idea in his head that we're going to become one of those no-name coffee shops that serve insanely good pies on the side or something. Anyway, thanks for understanding."

"Of course," I replied, pulling her into a hug.

The warm summer air overwhelmed me as soon as I stepped outside the coffee shop. I slowly started walking home. I'm positive mom's going to be pissed when she finds out I didn't get a ride. I keep thinking that maybe she fears I'll get abducted if I walk alone in the evening. I stopped for a moment to plug in my headphones, letting the music consume me.

I shot for the sky; I'm stuck on the ground, so why do I try? I know I'm gonna fall down.

I thought I could fly, so why did I drown? Never know why it's coming down, down, down.

My headphones fell out of my ears when I bumped into something. Or someone. I don't remember not looking where I was going. I quickly lifted my head so I could apologize, but stopped as soon as I recognized the "stranger's" face.

"Jace," I exhaled.

"Luna, what are you doing?" He asked, surprised.

"Walking home from work, what are you doing?"
