Percy woke up in the morning with the waves of the bed still going strong. He couldn't believe he didn't have any nightmares at night. He had actually gotten a good night's sleep. Something he hadn't had in a long, long time. He got up and was going to go to the washroom when there was a scream below him. "MY CURTAINS! WHY ARE THEY BURNED?! I PICKED THOSE MYSELF!" Uh oh. Percy raced downstairs. There was a girl, maybe in her twenties, with black hair with blonde highlights which reached roughly to her chin. She was wearing a black tank top and ripped jeans. Nobody else was in the room. Percy had to hand it to them. Dan and Amy were surely sound sleepers. The girl's glance landed on Percy. She completed the distance between them in a few strides.
"Who are you?" The girl demanded. She picked up a knife from the shelf and thrust it under his chin.
"I'm, uh, Percy. Percy Jackson," Percy replied.
"NELLIE! He's a friend, put the knife down, please. And where were you the whole night?" Amy appeared and said. The girl slowly lowered her knife.
"I was in a club with my friends. Who is he? And why are my curtains burned?" Nellie asked.
"I'll explain. Come on," Amy said. They made their way to the sofa while Amy and Percy explained who Percy was. Nellie sat stunned. Dan also appeared and sat down next to Amy. "So, Percy, are you going to tell us where exactly you are going to take us?"
"Sure. It's a camp called Camp Half Blood on Half Blood Hill. It's a camp where demigods like us can train to fight monsters and be safe. Chiron told me I had to bring you two to camp as soon as I found you," Percy said.
"Wait, who's Chiron?" Dan asked. Suddenly, the air behind Dan shimmered. In the spring decorating the room, sunlight was making a rainbow. In the rainbow appeared a centaur.
"That," Percy pointed to the rainbow, "is Chiron."
"Hello, Percy. I see you have found our guests," Chiron announced.
"Yeah, I did. Is Blackjack on his way?" Percy asked while Dan and Amy had opened their mouths in a perfect, comical O and Nellie went to her room with a, "You know what? I must be hallucinating or dreaming or something. Wake me when it's over."
"Yes. Along with Bob and Magpie," Chiron replied.
"Magpie? What kind of name is that? Sounds like something the neighbour's dog would eat, and trust me, he eats some pretty disgusting things, even by my standards," Dan said.
Chiron smiled. "Hello to you both. I hope you will like our hospitality at Camp Half Blood."
"We never said we were going," Amy said, still looking stunned at seeing a centaur.
"Ah, but my dears, you must. You have no choice, the Gods have ordered it," Chiron said.
"Wait, you mean Zeus?" Amy asked and even as she said it, thunder rumbled in the distance even though it was a cloudless sky.
"I suggest you do not use their names, child. At least, not here," Chiron said. He then glanced behind him and said abruptly, "I have to go, Percy. Bring these two safely to Camp." And the rainbow shimmered and disappeared.
"Please, Amy. You both have to come or monsters will target you all the time," Percy insisted.
"Oh . . . um . . .," She took a deep breath, "Okay. We'll come."
Just then a great black pegasus swooped in through the huge and open stained glass window.
Yo, boss. How ya doin'? Blackjack spoke in Percy's mind.
"Why can I hear that horse?" Dan and Amy said simultaneously.
"Wait, you can hear Blackjack? But how-" Percy started but comprehension dawned on his face. "I knew it was something like that!"
"Something like what?" Amy asked.
"Well, I think I finally understand what's the Gods' blessings is! You know how demigods inherit a little power of their God parent? I think it might be like that with you! Like you have powers but it's combined magic! Like if you mixed a Demigod of each Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. So maybe you have each of their powers!" Percy exclaimed. "That's why the monster couldn't kill you or use you, since your powers are so powerful!"
"So if we're so powerful and monsters stay away from us, why do we have to go to this camp?" Dan asked.
"Because the Gods gave their powers to you for a reason. They didn't just give it to you for survival, they gave it to you so you can also defend yourselves if you have to," Percy said.
"So that's why we can hear animals?" Amy asked.
Yo, boss. Did she just call me an animal?! I'm the man! Blackjack said.
"You technically are an animal, Blackjack. But no Amy, not animals, just horses for now since my dad created them," Percy replied.
"Out of sea foam! Yeah, I remember," Amy said.
"Cool! So what else can we do?" Dan asked excitedly.
"We'll have to find out at Camp," Percy said. "Hey, Blackjack? Where are Bob and Magpie?"
They needed to run an errand for Pegasus, boss. They'll be here in two days. Blackjack replied.
"Two days?" Percy asked.
Sorry, boss. They couldn't miss it. Blackjack said.
"Wait, Pegasus, like the Pegasus?" Amy asked.
That's the one. Blackjack replied. Hey, boss, how about some doughnuts?
"Ok, either my powers are starting to short-curcuit or something or did that pegasus just ask for Doughnuts," Dan said.
"Nah, you're not hard of hearing. Blackjack just likes doughnuts," Percy said.
"Awesome! Hey, Blackjack! Come on, I'll get you some doughnuts!" Dan exclaimed. "I've always wanted to fly!"
Hey, sounds good to me. All I want are doughnuts. Blackjack said. Dan climbed on Blackjack's back and they took off through the window towards the square probably.
Amy sighed. "Come on, we have to follow them." Percy nodded. They both sat in the backseat of the audi and the driver gunned the engine.
