The purple haired filly woke up to her mother entering the room, "Bella, time for school. Remember it's the last day so I'm going to make something special for you for the last day." snickering happily while exiting the room. Belladonna got up from her upside down position of sleep, sliding out of her hammick onto the floor the little filly yawned. Looking out the window it was sun down, the trees dimmed the light from the sun for an almost dark murky environment. If it weren't for the houses hanging from the trees lightly illuminating the darkness for better sight, even though they could see perfectly in the dark. The houses were made of wood and had lamp lights that turned on at night using special flammable powder that dimly lights the inside of the lantern. The platforms that got the bat ponies from place to place were connected by a series of chutes and ladders, guiding the ponies to their destination.
Moving away from the window and grabbing her saddle bag the green eyed filly exited her room with a hairbrush in her mouth. Sitting down at the table, her mother put down a bowl of fruits such as apples, pears, blueberries, peaches, and blackberries. The blue/grey pony's mouth watered with excitement for such an excellent breakfast. As she was just about to dig in her mother started to brush the filly's mane and tail, smoothening out and shining her coat. Taking about 15 minutes for her to look good, as the grooming went on the bat pony ate her delicious breakfast. "It's almost time for school, time to go. I packed your bag with a nice lunch, and a treat for you and your friends Meteor, and Crystal." Bella's mom cooed, shoving her out the door to get to school, Belladonna hated school, ever since she started the other ponies just laughed at her because of her size. Belladonna was a larger and taller mare than most, with the addition of more fur didn't help. Having a stallion like figure the blue/grey pony never made much friends, her only friends being Meteor a brown stallion with darker brown wings/mane and orange eyes. and Crystal a white mare with a light blue mane/wings and purple eyes.
Walking the platforms to the nearby school house which was mainly directly behind their house, the filly kept trotting towards the school. Not wanting to be late to upset Sour Apple, the dark green stallion with orange mane and wings. He is a great teacher but can be tough on those who don't listen to his lectures or is late for class, his motto being Just because it's night, does not mean that learning has taken flight. Three filly's bumped into Belladonna during her train of thought and snickered as she almost fell down to the forest floor. Scowling at the twins the blue furred mare decided to walk on to escape a confrontation, since everyone but her in their class could fly and most had their cutie marks Belladonna was left alone without flight and a cutie mark.
"So, it's the last day of school, and everyone but you can fly." The green eyed twin mocked, "Most of us have our cutie mark too, but you and your precious friends, so cute" The yellow eyed twin sounded exactly like her sister. The two were the worst of the worst, Pearl and diamond were daughters of a very powerful pony, Emerald, the manager of one of the most profitable gem mines in the badlands. Crystal is related to them but she prefers not to conversate to her snobby cousins. "Hey Stallion, you mind helping me with my bag, it's really heavy and a strong man like you could probably take all our bags to school." Pearl snickered, "Oh wait sister, then that would slow down the poor guy and school starts in five minutes. While we fly to school you're going to have to be late bummer, smell ya later big boy." Diamond hackled as she and her sister flew off to school. It was the last day of school, after this no more school she could work at the shop full time. Belladonna could not risk being late, if she was late again she would have to take another year of school and she couldn't have that. Opening her purple wings, her heart started to beat faster, her body aching to fly to get off the ground for even just a few flaps just to get to the school. Closing her eyes and racing off the edge, her wings outstretched she just knew she was going to fall, but she didn't her wings held her weight as she flew towards the school. The thrill lasted only a few seconds but it was worth it, racing into the school house with pride.
Belladonna took her seat next to her friends who looked at her, wanting to ask why she was so happy to be in school knowing her problem with the other kids. The day pressed on, the blue/grey furred pony at with pride, the colt behind her telling her things to bring down her pride, talking about her size and blank flank. Nothing could make her feel prouder that she was finally able to fly. The lunch bell rang finally, it was sun high and she was ready to tell her friends about her first fly. The ponies left their seats and went to their friends for lunch, most ponies flying down to the bottom of the forest for lunch, "Bella" Crystal called, "Do you want to have lunch in here or outside?" she asked. "I think we should follow the others to the bottom," the green eyed pony exclaimed. Crystal gave her a look of concern, "But you can't fly?" she tried to say politely, "Yes I can, I flew to school today after Pearl and Diamond decided to mock me." Bella explained."
The ponies screeched with glee, Crystal going on and on about flying tips and ideas for trips for the three of them on the way down to the bottom. Bella's hooved touched the soft murky ground, Meteor and Crystal grounded a few seconds after her. The trio took off their bags and opened their lunch, Bella having some of her favorite fruits and three cupcakes, Meteor and Crystal having the same thing but Meteor had donuts and Crystal having rock candy. The three realized that their parents probably collaborated an idea to do this for the trio on their last day ever at school. Trading their sweets so they had one of each the trio ate their lunch in peace, so often spouting a few sentences in between their meals to break the silence. Meteor was thoroughly enjoying this time of silence and smiling down at his lunch, Crystal poking glances at the other two every so often seeing where they were in their lunch. Belladonna took no mind in the others, just enjoying the ground and this day as it marks the first day of flight for her.
"Hey what are you all doing for the summer?" The white filly asked as they were about to finish their lunch. "I'm going to the Badlands with my father to check out mining production, as you know he is ceo of the mining business in the Badlands. I will be taking over the cooperation as heir." The brown stallion boasted. "Oh wow Meteor, I am also going to the Badlands with my family, hey it should be a joint trip! Remember my mother is the manager of one of the larger gem mines." Crystal also boasting her lineage. "What are you going Bell?" she asked. "Staying here, learning the ropes of the potions business, growing herbs, mixing potions, stuff like that." In reality the filly didn't have much adventure except the occasional brew of a potion her mother lets her make for clients if they come in. The school bell rang for the students to come back. Her friends packed their bags and headed up to the school house. Belladonna sat there for a second and flew up. The day was long after that lunch period.
