“Ms. Atwell, the principal will see you now.”
No, I was not in trouble. Why the hell would I, the student council president, be in trouble? Heck no, it wasn’t me who was in trouble. Selene Atwell never gets in trouble. But there was someone who does…
“Mr. Vergas?” I asked as I poked my head into the principal’s office. “Ah, Ms. Atwell. Please come in.” Mr. Vergas said upon hearing me.
Mr. Mark P. Vergas, AKA Mr. V, was the principal of Kinnertly Way High School. Married four women and has eleven kids.
“You, Ms. Atwell, have known Mr. Fuller since..” Mr. V trailed off leaving me to answer. But before I could say anything, someone else replied for me.
“First grade.”
Who was that? Jason Fuller. The school’s hotshot. Soccer team’s best goalie. Number one delinquent of the whole school.
“I do no recall asking you, Mr. Fuller.” Mr. V shot daggers at Jason, but the dude did not look one bit worried. Besides, why should he?
“If I heard you correctly, you did not ask either of us.” Well, that was true. But it was obvious he let me to answer.
“Mr. Vergas, if you don’t mind, Jason has soccer practice in fifteen minutes and I should be in a council meeting in five minutes.” I interrupted before Mr. V could retort.
I was in no mood for any annoying quarrel between Jason and Mr. V. They never make a point, and all they fight about is little things. Last time Jason got two weeks detention for just calling him Mr. V.
Jason had the guts. He would even go fight president of America if he was in the mood. And who was the one who had to make sure he didn’t? No, not his mom. Neither his dad. Ditto his whole family.
That poor girl had to be me. Selene Atwell. The head cheerleader and the student council president. Also Jason Fuller’s best friend since first grade.
Yeah, you heard me right. Jason and I’ve known each other since first grade. And even when we came to high school, all the schools we’ve gone to were the same. Our moms made sure that it was.
But that’s not the point. Wherever Jason went, trouble was sure to follow. And to make sure he was out of it, I had to be there.
And right now, Jason better be glad that I was there. ‘Cause the principal, who was like thirty whatever, was head over heels in love with me. And I could make him do whatever I wanted…most of the times. And right now had better be one of those times.
“You never informed me, Ms. Atwell.” YES! His eyes suddenly filled with worry. You owe me big time Jason!
“But this won’t take long. If Mr. Fuller decides to cooperate…” He added. Jason groaned. And me? What. The. Heck?! What does he want?!
“You see, it seems that Mr. Fuller has gotten into trouble wherever he went.” Insert mental snort. You got that right.
“And since you both have known each other for long, Ms. Atwell I would like to ask you. Has Jason Fuller ever been arrested? For any kind of crime?”
Has Jason Fuller ever been arrested?
Has Jason Fuller ever been arrested?
Has Jason Fuller ever been arrested?
What the hell, are you kidding me?!
At the very moment, Jason’s fist almost made contact with Mr. V’s. I, obviously, stopped him.
“Mr. Vergas, I understand your concern for your students, but I can fully assure you Jason was never arrested and he never will be. If you’ll excuse us, we have places to be in. I’m sorry for any violence Jason intended.” I almost hissed half of what I said before dragging Jason out by the hand I had caught him with.
