"Why does God allow bad things to happen" is one of the questions that keeps many non-believers from coming to Christ. After, all if God is such a loving God, why does He let bad things happen to good people? Or why do bad people seem to get away with everything?
You look at certain people who look like they have it all: they come from a rich family, they seem to get whatever they want, nothing seems to hinder them from their achievements, there doesn't seem to be a God that stops them from doing what they want.. little do you know however that these "benefits" are all worldly demon gifts.
Satan gives people money and a nice car and nice clothes to puff up their pride. He will have the hot cheerleaders dating all the jocks to fulfill their lusts. You want drugs and cigarettes Satan will hook you up. But these are all to keep you trapped in sin that you will not turn to Jesus Christ.
And you might be one of those people that seem to have it all: nice things, a hot girlfriend or boyfriend, you get away with pretty much anything you want, and you look at other people who don't have these things and think, 'Well, my life is perfect, and your life sucks compared to mine, so.. there is no God.'
However when we look in the Bible it has this verse: "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." (Mark 10:25)
And this one: "For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth." (Hebrews 12:6)
Then it starts to take on a whole new perspective. Sure, rich people will seem like they're happy and they can do whatever they want, but those people are going to hell. They will not enter into heaven. And those the Lord loves he disciplines and rebukes, so that they can be sure to go the right way in life and be corrected.
If society didn't care about correcting juvenile crimes, there would be no Juvenile Halls, and teens could just be thrown into the 'big house' with violent adults. But those facilities correct bad behavior as a mercy, because much worse could be done to you. It's the same with God. You commit sins, you get punished by God and corrected, and you are yet alive, instead of being slain on the spot and thrown into hell. Understand?
So let's go into some more reasons about why God allows these things to happen.
1. We Are Condemned Already
John 3:18 "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
So this verse is like saying, 'Why do bad things happen in prison?' If you sell drugs and go to prison, do you think the prisoners are surprised about getting raped in there, or why there are fights every day in there? No, because it's to be expected. Criminals know what they're in for when they go to prison - it's to be expected.
Therefore problems like self-harm, depression, suicidal thoughts, those are to be expected in this life because you do not believe in Jesus.. you are condemned already.. but if you do believe in Jesus you are no longer condemned to these things - understand?
We are condemned like prisoners in this life, and if we don't reach up our hands to Jesus, we are good as dead. Life isn't about doing what YOU think is right or should be right, it's about grabbing the hand of Jesus Christ. If you're operating under what YOU think makes a good person, prepare for hell fire when you die.
2. It Strengthens Us That We May Overcome Satan
If we're spoiled and God just gives us whatever we want, and He gives us a life free of mental problems and abuse, how is that going to strengthen us to overcome the temptations of God's enemy, Satan? If everything is handed to you on a silver platter, how does that make you a fighter?
Satan spoils you if you have nice things, and a lot of money. If you want a hot date and you can't get one, how does that help you fight Satan if God just gives one to you, that you may indulge in lust?
If God does not give you hardship, you will be weak and useless to God's Kingdom.
Romans 9:13 "As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated."
God loved Jacob and gave him hardship, and renamed him Israel to become the father of many nations. God despised Esau's life of ease and so did not choose him to carry on God's chosen descendants.
So if you are facing hardship and you have Christ, count that as a blessing to make you stronger in resisting temptation and subsequent sin. If you are facing hardship and you don't have Christ, then God is allowing Satan to torment you because you don't call out to God. Call out to God and the torment will subside, but only after you've fought Satan and used your free will to fight his temptations.
3. Those God Loves He Chastises and Rebukes
We are in the world, and when we reach for the things of the world, like video games, and we don't get punished for it, then we are not of God's. You belong to Satan if you play video games, watch anime, reach for a cigarette or a same-sex partner and feel no remorse.
4. If You're Not Drowning You Don't Need a Savior
When you're out partying all the time and life is going your way, and you get pretty much everything you want, why would you need Jesus? You DO need Jesus, but you don't know that you do. You THINK you don't need Jesus.
When you're not drowning you don't need a life saver. God will just let you drown anyway if you think you don't need to be saved. There's a lot of people I talk to on here, they give me this huge sob story of family abuse and self harm, and yet they still won't come to Jesus. They still think they're good without him.
And some try to commit suicide but they stop themselves out of fear. That is God putting the fear of demons into you. Because the moment you step into eternity and you're not saved, you will have demons pretty much immediately clawing and tearing at you and dragging you down into hell, but God in His mercy is trying to save you from that fate. God controls even demons - he controls hell and heaven.
