Like her brother Sasuke, Shiaye is ambidextrous!
Ambidextrous - (of a person) able to use the right and left hands equally well.
Before the Chunin exam's, Shiaye held her sword in her right hand and punched with her left hand. That was until she broke her arm in three places. Now, she holds her sword in her left hand while punching with her right.
It is very hard for her to use her left arm in some situations.
She does write with is though. Shiaye is mostly left handed and everything (changed when the fire nation attacked!) changed when she broke her arm.
The only thing she doesn't do with her left arm, is punch or slap because it's so fragile.
In one of the chapters (Ending of chapter 17 of TLF) Sai was falling and Shiaye went to save him not thinking and using her left arm. It cracked so easily (Beginning of chapter 19 of TLF) without her really doing anything.
