Chapter 22: The one with the Queen of Spain

Back at the chalet Aina was helping Kid gut fish, they joked and just casually talked. It was nice to have someone other than Killer to talk to, more than anything he wanted to say that but of course he had his reputation to uphold. "You know... you looked... hm, how am I meant to say this?" Aina sighed trying to find words as she passed him another fish. "What?" "You seemed yourself today," "what do you mean by that?" He asked befuddled but she merely gave him a small smile. "You had so much expression on your face, it was natural." "... They're like my family, my father was always coming here because his doctors insisted frequent holidays would calm him down... a lot of fucking good that did, I used to go to Narisa's and her family to play with them." It was true, and when Killer came into his life he started taking him with them on family trips and after a while Killer started living with them. Although he would never let Kid give him money for school fees so he got a job and did cage fighting to make ends meet, it didn't bother Kid, everyone has their own pride. When Killer and he started university they had to drop all jobs; they couldn't track Doflamingo, study, do part-time work, and train all at once. "There has to be textbook families out there... right?" Aina asked him as she cut off the last fish head. "Of course, but who wants to hear tales of nice normal family life?" "It's not like our stories are told though," "you could tell me..." Yes, he still wanted to find out where Doflamingo fit in. "Maybe, what are you going to do with this fish?" "I'm going to smoke it on the bonfire, you can't do it any other way." He answered putting the four fish on a plate. "Bonfire?" Aina answered with skepticism laced in her voice. "Have you never had a bonfire before?" He asked surprised, who didn't know what a bonfire was? "No..." "Go have a shower or whatever you need to do and when you come back you shall see." He said with a smirk, Killer was kind of right. Kid did want to show Aina he wasn't actually as rough and nasty as everyone though he was... most of the time he wanted to have fun with friends and take as many risks as possible in the absolute best way.

In the shower adjacent to her room Aina washed the lake water out of her hair and as she scrubbed her skin she had noticed the significant healing of her bruises, in fact she was almost back to normal.

"I think I'll be alright for regionals..." She began humming her new favorite song, one time she came back from practice and Kid had left his stereo on but he had already left with Killer. So she sat and listened to his music for a while, her favorite that she was humming right now is called The Kids Aren't Alright; it was one of those songs that made your heart beat fast and your lips smile. Although saying this a lot of Kid's music was heavy metal and she couldn't even understand what they were saying - but you have to give her credit for trying!

Once she was out of the shower she dressed herself in light blue denim shorts, a black singlet and a colorful, geometric, long cardigan. Her hair was still a little wet so she got out her straightener and took the chance to straighten her hair whilst she could. Walking out of her room feeling refreshed and healthy she slid the door to outside open. Kid was standing in front a pile of sticks that sat in a shallow pit, and just before her eyes the whole thing became a light. "Woah..." She uttered under her breath as Kid turned around, the fire framed him something amazing. "Stay... right there..." running back into her house she grabbed her camera and took a photo, the colors were insane. "You good?" Kid smirked and she nodded her head. "It was a cool photo," "ah I see... I put the fish in foil then sat it in the fire - don't look at me like that it'll taste amazing." "I wasn't doubting you, Kid... you've got coal all over your cheek." She laughed reaching up to brush it away with her fingers causing Kid to go red all over. "I-it's fine!"
