Werecoyotes

The Werecoyote is quite similar to werewolves they just have a few different ways of doing things.

The werecoyote doesn't seek a pack, making them act like an Omega werewolf. If they were in a pack which is rare, then they wouldn't try to save each other like a typical pack would look out for one another. Instead, they would just leave the injured pack members for dead and save themselves.

How to become a Coyote

The only way to be a werecoyote is having it genetically occur, meaning it will have to run in your bloodline. However, the "curse" needs to be activated. When Malia was in a car accident with her adpoted family, she killed her adopted mother which triggered the werecoyote "curse" leaving her stuck in a coyote form for a long time.

In Malia's case, her father was a werewolf and her mother was a werecoyote which is what caused Malia to become a werecoyote with similar traits and abilities to the werewolf.

Shifting

Werecoyotes tend to have the same shifting as werewolves, when they shift they have glowing eyes, fangs, claws and sideburns. However, in the series we see Malia as a real coyote until she learns control which is different to werewolves learning control as they cannot shift into a full wolf unless they evolve.

Eye colour 

The eye colour for werecoyotes is a little unknown due to the lack of them in the series. What is known is that Malia who is the only coyote in Teen Wolf for quite some time has blue eyes. However, she did kill her adopted mother which could have been the result of her having blue eyes.

Heightened senses

Just like the werewolf, werecoyotes have the same senses as them.

Hearing: Hearing more than the average human is a perk for the werecoyote. These supernatrual creatures feel threatened and preyed upon, making their super hearing excellent for keeping a lookout.

Sight: Werecoyotes are able to have inferred vison, which is great for hunting seeing as they like to travel alone without a pack.

Smell: Heightened smell is the most important super sense they have, because they will be able to smell if any threats are heading their way and it will also help for when they are being preyed upon too.

Abilties

Speed: Run at super speed, faster than a human and the same speed as a werewolf depending on the stamina of the werecoyote and werewolf.

Strength: These guys are a great match for any werewolf to take, having super strength grants them perks like allowing them to fend for themselves when they are in danger.

Healing: Super healing is perfect for werecoyotes seeing as they have to defend themselves. Typical healing time is no more than 24 hours.

Weaknesses

Like the werewolf or any other supernatural being for that matter, Coyotes can't cross mountain ash. Finally, wolfbane will take an affect on Malia because she has werewolf bloodline as well as werecoyote bloodline. However, it is most likely accurate that werecoyotes typically do not get affected by wolfsbane.
