Recape:

“A princess as beautiful as your self should not shy away” he placed his hands over mine, a spark of warmth ran up my arm directly to my heart he gasped holding my hand in both of his, a halo of warmth spread around us the first time I felt some peace in heart. He let one of his hands move away from mine lifting it to my face wrapping it around my check, he lifted my face so he could look into my eyes but I refused to meet his. “Please, look at me” he whispered holding my check ever so gently his voice sounded so soft and distressing, that I couldn’t take it anymore I looked up into his stormy grey eyes.

Chapter 4

Cliff Edge

My father coughed breaking the general and I from our trance, I blinked slightly dazed from the way he had made me feel for so long I had been feeling cold, fractional, missing something .The dreams I had once had off him filled that void but after he turned into the murder I had lost all hope in him and lost hope in life how could fate make once such an innocent boy into a beast of a man. My father placed his arm on my shoulder while the general stepped back his hands slipping away from mine, the halo of warmth that had been around us faded into cold I shivered recoiling in to my father’s side who hugged me to him kissing my forehead. I looked up at the people that surrounded the hall they were all looking at the general in wonder and surprise then on impulse; as if they felt my gaze they turned to look at me. The elderly women smiled shrewdly while the younger women glared at me hoofing, the soldiers that had come in after the general were looking at him in disbelief like they couldn’t believe what just happened. I shyly peeked at him he was staring intently at me as his eyes met mine that breath taking smile that I had seen on his face many years ago in my dreams, spread across his face the warm smile he only ever used when he was incredibly happy, they’re were audibly gasps in the hall but I couldn’t take my gaze of him a grin stretched across my face.

“Your majesty would it be asking too much, that the princess shows me around the kingdom?” he asked sincerely I looked up to see my father’s reaction, my father had refused to allow any man to court me, and had refused over fifty marriage proposals. My father smiled down at me asking me what I wanted I nodded discretely at him, he chuckled in response,

“You may take me daughter but be wondered if any harm comes to her it will be your head” I rolled my eyes at fathers reply but the general didn’t take it lightly.

“If anyone tries to harm a single hair open her precious head I will deal with them, I assure you she will not be in any danger as long as I shall live” my father nodded in response, the general stepped forward offering me his arms smiling at me. I kissed my father’s cheek saying goodbye; I slipped my hand around the general’s muscular arm he lead me through the crowd of people who were gapping at us as we walked out the main hall. I lead him through the main corridors, the maids squealed as we walked past bowing looking bewildered. We walked in silence, I was eluding his gaze while we walked out to the gardens of the castle, I could feel him looking at me but I couldn’t meet his gaze was this really the man that I had been loathing for so many years, the man that I had watched kill people. But as we walked I couldn’t help but feel the warmth in me as we walked, the comfort that surrounded us, could this man that held my arm in his that looked at me like I was something valued truly be the beast that I had made him out to be?

We reached the boundaries of the castle the footmen stood guarding the exit gates they bowed to us opening the gates there gazes mirrored those of the maids. We headed on taking a stony path down to the marketplace,

“My lady, would you like to go into the market, or allow me to take you open a leisure able walk?” I didn’t want to have the people staring at us as we walked, but didn’t he want to see the kingdom?

“I would appreciate a walk, but my Lord didn’t you want to explore the kingdom?” I asked confused that was what he had requested of my father,

“I would rather have a peaceful walk with you as my companion, than the inquisitive eyes of your people” he smiled down at me, his touch had me warm in the chilly air the trees rustled beside us we walked on I smiled at him in return,

“I would be partial to a walk” I answered him but was I safe with him? He wouldn’t harm his own mate would he? He tuck the left road down away from the kingdom to an abandoned area where it was rumoured lived the witches, I looked up at him a little scared the wind picked up blowing at me I shivered moving closer to him I regretted not bring my cloak.

“Your cold?” he stopped taking of his own cape of and placing it around me it weighed down my shoulders slightly from its load, but it was snugly warm and smelt of lime so sweet yet bitter it came past my feet brushing against the pebbles of the road. We walked on again in silence I began to wonder what the purpose of this saunter was, why was he taking me away from the kingdom from the bystanders of the market we were alone away from any witnesses he could do anything to me. Was I obtuse to think he still had a glimpse of that boy I had fell in love with, to trust him with my life and allow him to take me on this ‘walk?’

He took my small hand in his very large rather ruff one; smiling reassuringly at me he guided me through the thick vegetation of the woods taking me off the road. He helped me over fallen trees moving a side tree branches, keeping a firm hold of my hand not allowing me to fall not allowing a single branch to brush against my skin. The forest thinned and we came out to a cliff edge looking out on to a beautiful vista there was acres open acres of land golden brown fields of crops it almost felt like daja vu, almost like I been to a farm just like the one I faced. He guided me near the edge of the cliff wrapping his arms around my waist and holding me against him I sighed at the feel of him, I felt absolute like everything in the world made sense by having this man hold me. He pointed to the right of the fields,

“Can you see the ruins of an old house?” he asked pointing on to the fields I looked closely his hold on me lose allowing me to move forward squinting trying to see what he was seeing, I felt the edge of the cliff under my feet the rocks crumbled from under me tilting me over the cliff, I heard a loud growl be hide me making my already racing heart pound in my chest, I felt arms go around me soaring me through the air and landing on the generals growling chest.

I clutched at his shirt holding him tightly he was breathing loudly his arms wrapped around me, his hand travelled from around my waist up my back to my face he lifted my face of his chest looking intently at me “please tell me you are alright my princess, are you hurt, can you move answer me” his face was illustrated with worry holding my face ever so softly this man was pursuing me into loving him again.

“I’ve never felt better my lord, and it’s Leonora” I smiled holding on to his cheek the way he held on to mine, he lifted us both up of the ground holding me against.

“Please don’t ever to that again.” He clutched me closer to him wrapping his arms around me from under his cloak I sighed resting my head on his chest. “I was trying to show you were I had once lived as a young boy, the home of my parents. All that land, the farm belongs to me” he whispered into my hair were his face rested, I felt his lips brush against my tresses.
