It was a crisp autumn morning in England, 1865.
Alice straightened her blue and white dress, nauseated at the mere thought of school. Such a horrifying place! It was dreadfully boring, full of bullies, and, perhaps most dire of all, she was not permitted to read any stories!
Wiping a stray tear from her porcelain cheek, Alice closed her eyes as she dismally walked through the beams of chilled sunlight that struck the winding forest path.
Oh, if only Alice had known, on that crisp autumn morning in England, 1865, if only she had known, as she dismally walked through that chilled sunlight, if only she had known...
...to simply open her eyes...
Not a tale would there be to tell.
Without warning, the ground beneath her shiny black shoes gave way, and a shrieking Alice went tumbling into hole.
Now covered in dry dirt, Alice landed in quite a painful heap on a rocky surface and rolled over, audibly groaning in dull pain. After gingerly wiping blood from her head, she fumbled to her feet, perplexed by her damp, pitch-black surroundings.
The young schoolgirl shivered, stumbling forward through the darkness and starting at the sudden luminescence of two glowing vermilion eyes.
A cry escaped her lips as a low growl resonated through her bones, and with horrified haste Alice backed clumsily into what felt like a corner.
And then silence--- heart-pounding, gut-wrenching, nightmarish silence--- fell around her, sinking its sharp black talons deep into her shaking soul.
Her lungs were ravenous for oxygen, but she did not dare breathe.
Before she could merely whine into the deafening darkness, the most frightening red eyes flashed again, this time mere centimeters from her own.
Little Alice screamed in sheer terror.
