Courtney sighed as she sat in the driveway waiting for the garage to open. She was finally back in Los Angeles from the long road trip. While she was happy to be home, it meant the end to her and Matt so to speak. She would no longer be following them on away games. Lucky for them the Clippers were about to embark on a two week home stand.
She carefully drove into the garage and grabbed her bag as she shut off the engine. She had yet to hear from Matt who, before they left for the airport in Dallas, promised he would text her as soon as he made it back to LA. She knew the team left before she did, surely he had made it back by now.
It was just after midnight on the west coast and she couldn't wait to climb into bed. Her own bed. She unpacked a few things she knew she would need when she went back to the office tomorrow morning and plugged her phone in before grabbing the remote to the TV she had mounted on the wall in her bedroom. Stopping on a Real Housewives rerun she got comfortable and was just about out when her phone buzzed against her nightstand. She reached over and grabbed it a smile crossing her face as she saw Matt's name.
Sorry I'm just now texting you. I went out with guys for a bit but I'm home now.
Courtney quickly typed a response before reaching over and turning the TV off.
Did you not hear anything I said in Cleveland??
Courtney rolled her eyes seeing an incoming call from Matt pop up on her phone.
"What?" She sighed into the phone.
"Yes I heard you in Cleveland. Why do you assume I was drinking?" Matt asked clearly amused.
"Isn't that what the guys do when they get together?" Courtney asked as if she were stating the obvious.
"Not always. What's with the mood?" Matt asked kicking his shoes off and throwing himself down on his couch.
"I'm tired and I have to get up early in the morning," Courtney explained.
"Call in sick," Matt said grabbing the remote from the coffee table and powering on the large flat screen that was mounted on the wall across from him. "Don't you get the day off after traveling?"
"No. We aren't all spoiled basketball players," Courtney smirked.
"You're right. Some of us are spoiled reporters," Matt smiled into the phone.
"Well your regular spoiled reporter will be back to traveling with you guys very soon," Courtney said turning the tv off and rolling onto her side.
"He's not as good looking," Matt said changing the channel on the TV.
"I don't think he's your type," Courtney joked.
"You're so funny. Call in sick and come over here," Matt sighed.
"What?" Courtney laughed.
"Call in sick and come over here," Matt said repeating himself.
"I can't," Courtney said feeling the butterflies come alive in her stomach.
"You can't or don't want to?" Matt asked.
"Believe me I want to," Courtney said closing her eyes and remembering the last time the two of them were alone together. "Then call in grab your toothbrush and come on," Matt said stretching his legs out in front of him.
Courtney just sighed instead of saying anything back. At this point she was trying to think of what excuse she could possibly have for not coming into work.
"Don't make me come get you," Matt said breaking the silence.
"Well if you're coming to get me I suppose that would give me enough time to come up with an excuse," Courtney said throwing the covers off.
