The Argument

I"I'm gonna go...bake some cookies or something, anyone want some?" I said but they ignored me

"Of all the people in this room, which one is A) Wearing a spangly outfit and B) Not of use?" Tony asked

"Steve. Tell me none of this smells funky to you?" Bruce interrupted

"Just find the cube" he said and made a hasty exit

"The guy's not wrong about Loki" I said. "He does kinda have the jump on us"

"What he's got is an ACME Dynamite kit. It's gonna blow up in his face, and I'll be there when it does" Tony stated clearly

"And I'll read all about it" Bruce added

"Or you'll be suiting up like the rest of us" I added with a warm smile

"Ah see, I don't get a suit of armor. I'm exposed, like a nerve, it's a nightmare" replied Bruce

"You know, I have a cluster of shrapnel trying every second to crawl it's way into my heart. This" he tapped the reactor on his chest, "Stops it. This circle of light. It's a part of me now, not just armor, it's a...terrible privilege"

"But you can control it"

"Because I learned how

"That's different" Bruce sighed

"Hey it's okay, if you do break lose, I'll turn into my full form, just to stop you" I joked and playfully elbowed him

"I read all about your accident. That much gamma radiation, should've killed you" I stated

"So you're saying that the Hulk..the other guy saved my life? That's nice, it's a nice sentiment. Save it for what?"

"Guess we'll find out" I shrugged

"You may not enjoy that"

I just smirked and got back to my computer

"What about the cookies?" asked Stark

"Nah, too lazy"

I walked outside and saw Phil and Thor looking at someone on the computer screen

"Isn't that Jane Foster?" I asked

"Yes she is" Thor answered

"Do you.. Like her?" I asked and he nodded

"Well.. This is awkward" I said suddenly

"Why is that, Lady Sparks?" He asked

"Firstly, just call me Gemini, and secondly.. It's because I know her...and.." I trailed off

"What is it?"

"Isn't she engaged?" I asked and I saw his eyes filling up with shock and disbelief

Thor seemed to not believe me, and stomped off

"I'm so stupid" I groaned as I buried my face in my hands

"It's okay. He'll get over it" Phil said and he patted my back soothingly before I walked back in the lab

"But you'd figured I'd come" replied Natasha

"After whatever tortures Fury can concoct, you would appear as a friend, as a balm. And I would cooperate" he said

"I want to know what you've done to agent Barton" the Black Widow demanded

"I would say I've expanded his mind" was Loki's simple reply

"And once you've won, once you're king of the mountain, what happens with his mind?" She asked once more

"Oh. Is this love agent Romanoff?" He smirked

"Love is for children, I owe him a debt" she said, before adding, "Besides, he loves someone else"

"So I've heard" smirked Loki, "The dragoness. The only of her kind"

"What are you talking about?" Natasha raised an eyebrow

"Gemini Sparks. Is much, much more than what meets the eye. She is powerful. More than enough to overpower the mindless beast" he smirked even wider, but then sat down

"Now, tell me"

Natasha hesitated but sat down

"Before I worked for SHIELD, well I made a name four myself. I had a specific skill set. I didn't care who I used it for, or on" she started

"I got on shield's radar in a bad way. Agent Barton was sent to kill me"

"He made a different call" she added

"And what will you do, if I vow to spare him?" Loki asked

"I'll not let you out" she looked at him

"No but I like this" Loki said as he smirked

"Your world in the balance, and you bargain for one man" he added

"Regimes fall everyday, I tend not to weep over that, I'm Russian. Or I was" she replied

"And what are you now?"

"It's really not that complicated" Natasha said getting up

"I got red in my ledger, I'd like to wipe it off"

"Can you? Can you wipe out that much red?" Loki asked, also getting up

"Drakoff's daughter? Sao paulo? The hospital file? Barton told me everything" he taunted as he took steps forward

"Your ledger is dripping. It's gushing red"

"And you think saving a man not more virtuous than yourself would change anything? This is the basest sentimentality, this is a child at prayer, pathetic!" He exclaimed

"You lie and kill. In the service of liars and killers. You pretend to be separate, to have your own code. Something that makes up for the horrors. But they'll always be a part of you"

Loki slammed his palm on the glass

"I will not touch Barton, not until I make him kill you. Slowly, intimately. In every way he knows you fear. He'll wake up just long enough to see his good work. And when he screams I'll split his skull!" Loki said menacingly as Natasha turned around and sobbed quietly

"This is my bargain you mewling quim"

"You monster" she sobbed

"Oh no. You brought the monster" he said

Natasha turned around to face him, fully composed

"So, Banner? That's your play?" She asked

"What?"

"Loki means to unleash the Hulk. Keep Banner in the lab, I'm on my way. Send Thor as well" she said to her earpiece as she walked away

She turned to Loki, "Thank you, for your cooperation" and with those words she walked off
