At the sound of the sirens, Leeh increases the speed. I turn myself around from my position on the floor, gazing out the back of the hoverpod to see a patrol of government crafts right behind us.

"Uh, Leeh?" I face back to the front as she swerves around the higher buildings, driving deeper into the city. She pulls back on the wheel, sending us almost straight up as we increase out altitude and fly safely above the skyscrapers. I take another quick glance behind me, noticing the hovercrafts on our tail do the same.

The girl completely ignores me, continuing to press on the speed, making me slightly uncomfortable as I feel as invisible force pressing me against the back of the cockpit. I try to lean forward to get a better glimpse out the front window, but I am barely able to lift my arm off the wall.

Sitting in her pilot's seat at the wheel, Leeh moves one hand from the wheel and reaches out to pick up a receiver. I hear her voice perfectly over the steady hum beneath me.

"Are we clear?"

A voice interrupts the end of Leeh's question; blaring through the speakers at the control panel and making me flinch as it echoed through the pod. "Cadet Ambrose, halt the craft for the safety of yourself and other." The voice is audible just barely over the roar of feedback accompanying the command. It obviously wasn't in response to Leeh's question.

Leeh gives me  a quick glance back, eyes full of adrenalin and genuine concern, meeting my gaze for a split second before turning back forward and bringing the receiver once again to her lips.

"We're clear!" she yells, dropping the device as soon as she'd spoken, letting it sway in midair from the panel by its curling black cord, hurriedly grabbing the 'Y' shaped steering wheel and pressing it all the way forward, the blunt force throwing my head hard against the glass back of the cockpit with a sickening crack. I am just able to turn my head and glare out behind us as the other hovercrafts quickly fall behind, all before--I gasp, my head beginning to throb and vision go blurry at the sight before me.

Behind us, as we speed away in the stolen hoverpod, all of the crafts holding our pursuers explode, bursting into balls of flame and shrapnel, raining down over a portion of the city.

I'm not able to comprehend what Leeh says next, whether even to me or through the receiver, before the impact of my head against the glass finally drags me to unconsciousness.

They grab me, and before I am able to react, a gag is between my teeth and tied tightly behind the back of my head. They pull at my hair and push me around, already binding my wrists with what feels to be a sturdy cloth, much like the one in my mouth.

They had him too.

He is struggling. I can see him as we are marched down the streets.

His blue eyes are wide on my face, struck with a spark of adrenalin and determination I have never seen in them before. His hair is ruffled, and, while I watch, he violently shakes his head in attempts to dislodge the gag. I meet his hasty gaze, and he locks in, not glancing once away from me as he continues his struggle.

"I still can't believe you brought him here, Leeh." I hear the voice aloud, a deeper voice suggesting it a man speaking, my dream gone in an instant. I keep my eyes closed, too tired to open them and face my new questions, convincing myself that not facing them will make them disappear. "We have no idea about him--"

"Ru, I know, but he's far enough out that it's all still a secret, he won't find out until we tell him. And anyway, I think he'll be onboard considering I just saved his sorry ass."
