Chapter 1
It has been a long time struggle trying to get to Scotland. From my father doing everything humaly possible to change my mind, to loosing my job, and then having to deal with the case. It feels so good to FINALLY be here. Having been here for 2 months now you would think that i might catch on to some of the local lingo, but you would be sadly mistaken..
"Hey Bart!" I smiled as greeted the old man who I have grown to know and love in the past few months.
"Well 'ello 'der Evelyn. Nice ta see ye. Aye, nice ta see ye it is."
I giggled at his elderly flirting, it sure was cute. " Now you know Alice wouldn't want you ruining my chances of meeting a nice young man Bert" haha, Alice and Bert had been together for 45 years and they were the cutest old couple you could ever meet. They also have been harassing me for the past 2 months to find a "nice young man"..old people.. sheesh.
"Evey ye know 'ders alotta young men that be more'n willin' ta take yer perty self out!"
" I know Bert but I just cant seem to find any!" haha, they are always pushing me.
"Aye love, sure ye can."
"We'll see Bert. Ive got to go, I'll be by later to check up on you and Alice ok? Give me a ring if you need me!" They may have each other but it was comforting to know that they would call if they needed anything. I waved goodbye as Bert met Alice on their front porch as I walked by their old cottage, typical Scottish style and all!
Even though I've been in Scotland for 2 months now, I still wasn't ready to try driving on the opposite side of the road! I could hardly drive on the right side of the road in America.. SO instead of trying to royally kill myself, I usually walk into town. It's only 15 minutes from the small cottage I stay in right beside Bert and Alice. The walk is brisk and mostly uphill, but its great! Ive even lost 15lbs since i've been here.
Thoughts of the home I left back in America seeped into my mind as they always did whenever I was making this trek into town. A soft moist feather-like kiss landed on my cheek.. oh no.. could it get any worse? I was now raining in steady sheets. Man that was fast!! yes, it had definitely gotten worse..
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was raining in sheets as I drove me old beat up truck int' town. I could hardly concentrate from the pounding in me brain. 'twas damn near unbearable. I noticed a small figure walkin' on the side of th' road, the lass couldna been more then 180cm and she was full figured, if i had t' guess id bet me arse she was 13 stone. I'd always had a nicht for those things, least me mum said so.
wincing as me window squawked all the way down i called to her. "Ay' love ! yer gonna come down with a cold if'n ye stay out ther'" I was very matter-of-factly screaming so i knew she'd hear me.
"And you think getting in a car with a total stranger will make me any safer? I don't think so Casanova. 'll try my luck with the rain. Thank you!"
Brother was she stubborn.
" Look miss, I just wouldn' wana' responsible if'n you got sick. I's tryin t' help is all."
"What makes you think I would accept the ever so gracious help, when I would feel obligated to help you in the end anyhow?"
' I dunno, figured it was worth a shot." Bloody American..I thought to myself, or so I thought.
"Hey! I heard that?!" oops.. oh well! I thought is i shot the lass a charming smile. Maybe? I couldn't tell why this strange woman was makin me act so childish!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I Couldn't believe the nerve this strange, devilishly handsome man had! I mean who did he think he was? A womanizing heart breaker that's who. I could see the desire written all over his face. Along with confusion and...admiration? Hmm strange..
A devious smile was slowly creeping across his face as I stood in the now pouring rain, soaked to the bone. Perhaps more than unwilling to trust a strange man for a ride into town, although I had done stupider things in the past. Aw heck.. I might as well get a ride while I had the chance to. I could hardly see in front of my face and he was right.. I was very likely to catch a cold out in this weather.. wait what? I was reasoning with him? Thanks self concious for being on MY side of this... pft..
He must have noticed my inner war as he nos spoke with annoyance thick in his deep voice.
"This is yer last chance lady.. I won't wait all day for ye." Who am I kidding. This was the first challenging man I had met in Scoltand. gorgeous too no doubt. As if he would ever like me. I sucked up my pride as i took a few steps closer to the beaut up hunk of metal that was now stopped in the middle of the road. It was a sorry excuse for a truck if you ask me.
" I guess I could use a ride into town if it isn't too much to ask of you.." I sopke quietly trying to hide the obvious shame in my voice.
" Well! Look whos playin' nice! Come on then. Hop in!"
And like that I was in a strange truck, with a strange man who smelled of earth and pine. It was intoxicating. What had I gotten myslef into?
