*************************chapter 2***************************************************
Alexia ran like the wind was her race partner. She ignored Mazy's screams of protest as she ran to get Chloe. The plane was roaring in her ears, she couldn't hear Chloe's screams now. "Alexia, no!" "Don't come back and get me, you are going to be killed!" Chloe was yelling. Alexia could see her leg at an awkward angle as she lay on the ground. She scooped up Chloe, and dragged her. Chloe screamed. Her leg was broken from what Alexia could tell. It looked like the television screen had a glitch and you were seeing the picture at a different angle on the other side. "Shut up, or we will get caught!" Yelled Alexia. She doubted the people on the plane would be able to here, but she didn't want to take chances. As soon as Alexia reached the cover of trees she dropped to the ground. Seriously winded, she breathed in the smell of wet bark and leaves. Home. It smelled like home. Suddenly, she had a memory of when she was little. Mazy wasn't full grown and Ceaser still had downey feathers. She was exploring a part of the woods she had never visited to before. The ground was dappled with sunlight from the tree cover and the warm summer breeze was blowing her long hair softly around her head. A fox and her two pups ran accessed the path and nodded to Alexia as she want by. She was always closer to animals than anyone she knew. She was a different person around them. Quiet, shy, and kind. As they traveled deeper into the glen, she noticed a dove cook softly in the trees, singing a song she had herd before but the tune was slightly slower. Humming along she slipped off of Mazy and walked around a large oak tree. Guessing it was around 100 years old, she looked up to the leaves. Easy climbable, she determined. She climbed up onto the first branch. "Can you bring me up to?" Asked Mazy. "Sorry Maze, you weigh to much, and when have you ever seen horse in a tree?" Alexia asked not so insolently. "Well, how would you know you got banned from T.V. last week." Mazy said back with equal tone. "Your to heavy any way." Said Alexia, climbing higher as she spoke. The view from the tree was amazing. The earth and it's sloping hills, deep valleys, and mighty mountains, all before her eyes. The sky so close she could touch it. Or, at least, she felt like she could. Home. She felt at home. "Alexia!" Chloe's strangled cry snapped her back to the present time. "My leg burns, it feels like its on fire. I know it's twisted wrong I can feel it." Chloe's leg was broken, bad. Alexia could tell. She wasn't a doctor but she paid attention in anatomy and medical class.which were about the only ones she ever did. "Ceaser, bring me as many large sticks as you can find, and Mazy, check to make sure the plane is gone and bing me some vines." Snapped Alexia. She was on edge. She never did that well when people were hurt. "Planes gone!" Whinnied Mazy. Ceaser dropped a bundle of sticks next to Chloe. Alexia dug through them until she found some of equal and proper length. Mazy came back with the vines. Alexia took out her pocket knife and cut alway the part of Chloe's pants that were where the leg was twisted. She handed a shorter stick to Chloe. "Bite it, now." "Why? Wait, what?" "Bite it!" Alexia snapped, now feverishly. "It will keep you from screaming to loud and help with the pain when I snap your leg back." She explained quickly. "Oh," said Chloe. "Will it hurt much?" "We'll, I'm snapping it back into place, so, it's gonna hurt but it will set right and heal right so it's worth it." Alexia. Chloe whimpered. She didn't get hurt as often as Alexia did. Again, Alexia was hit with a memory. She was small, and young. She was learning how to ride Mazy, and was getting good. She was distracted by a sharp piece of metal sticking out of the ground. She quickly jerked on Mazy's reigns and went tumbling down. Right onto the nail. It had been from the new roofing on Mazy's paddock. She scrapped her entire four-arm on the nail. Being young, she cried and yelled for help. None came. Her parents were busy inside with their government jobs. They barley ever did anything with Alexia. She sat and cried for at least ten minutes, before realizing something, they couldn't hear her, and, crying didn't do any good. No matter how hard you cried, tears didn't matter. She got up, using Mazy, who had been nuzzling her sympathetically as she had been crying, and walked into the house. Her mother didn't glance from the computer before saying, "The sealing cream is on the top shelf but wash the little scrape out first." Alexia didn't explaining to her mother the cut was so deep she could see the bone if she bent her arm. She wouldn't care. She had grabbed the sealing cream and walked to the bathroom. Passing her dads office she paused. "Daddy, can you help me?" She asked. "With what?" Her father asked distracted. "I cut my arm on a nail in Mazy's pen." She explained. "I'm sure you'll be fine, your a big girl." He answered. He haven't looked up from his paperwork. She was about to cry again, but she pressed on to the bathroom. The water stung and burned in the cut. She rubbed the cream over the wound. It felt better immediately. The cut started to grow back tissue around the bone. It wasn't visible anymore. Soon all she would have left was a small scratch. Ceaser flew in from the open window letting the cool autumn breeze through, and landed on Alexia's good arm. "She didn't care again did she?" He asked. "Nope, she didn't care one bit, as usual." She sighed.
Chloe's moan brought her out of her memory.
She was going into shock so Alexia draped a blanket over Chloe's shoulders. She handed her the stick again. "On three." Alexia said hesitantly. Chloe took the stick in her mouth. "One, two, three!" On three, Alexia twisted Chloe's leg back into position. Chloe screamed as she bit on the stick. Tears flowed anew down Chloe's cheeks. Alexia quickly took the two sticks and braced them on either side of Chloe's injured leg and wrapped the vines around it with rope. She took an extra blanket from their packs and made a wrap to set under the leg to help support it, and wrapped that up with rope and vine as well. Alexia dragged the the now passed out Chloe farther into the tree cover. It was now around 2:00 in the afternoon. She got out some apples and fruits as well as chips and started to have some lunch. The leaves to her left rustled softly in the wind. Causing her to feel safe, and as she started to fall asleep, she knew the trees would watch over her as she slept.
She woke up at around 11:12 at night. Chloe hadn't moved much but the blanket was around her middle. She moved it up to her chin. Alexia took a sip from her canteen and realized she would have to find water soon. It was still hot out but the night air and trees kept them cool. She didn't know how thick this bunch of trees were, so she went in search of water. She left sticks pointing in the direction she was going for Chloe to find if she woke up before Alexia got back. She wasn't walking long before she herd the gurgling of a stream. It sounded more like a river but based on the size of the area around, it couldn't be one. The thing she found next surprised her. It was her stream. The one from the woods at home. She didn't recognize the area around her at all. She had explored every inch of the woods on her property at home. What was this? She looked up and saw that the water was coming towards her. The way it had been at home. She saw where the river looked to be starting at home. She saw before it got bigger that is. Why had so much changed? A noise to her left startled her. "Crunch.... rustle....." Leaves. Someone or something had followed her. She gave no hint to her follower that she had noticed. She pretended to be inspecting something by the side of the river. More occupied now with the noises behind her, the river size and familiarity was forgotten. Her follower softly crunched closer and closer until it stopped. Alexia ducked down two seconds later just as her follower jumped over her head in attempt to catch her with a blow that would likely have knocked her out and into the river. Alexia herd a splash and a human cry cut off by water rushing in the mouth of her follower. Alexia saw a girl, around her age, being swept quickly down river. Without a second thought Alexia ran. Again.
