Lucy snickered as she held the book in her hands. "Oh this will be sweet revenge." She nodded to Levy.
"Lucy! No! Read the one about the girl with long hair! I'd even do the shoe story if it got me out of this!!" Levy cried, reaching out desperately to snatch the book from her friend, whom had no intention of releasing her hold on the story.
"Too late!" Lucy laughed as she turned to the page that held the tale of Beauty and the Beast.
"What's the bunny girl getting all excited over?"
Lucy and Levy turn to Gajeel, who was chewing on a pit of scrap metal that hung from his lips.
"Gajeel!?" Levy cried as she snatched away the book at long last, pressing it to her chest.
"Hey, that one of yer new books?" Gajeel snickered, reaching for it. He plucked it from Levy's grasp, who held on for quite awhile before releasing it.
He dropped down onto a bench and opened the book. He squinted as he read. "Beauty and the Beast? What's this crap?"
"Gajeel! It's not crap of any sorts!" Juvia arose firmly in defense of the tale. "It's a love story, about a beautiful maiden falling for a hideous beast."
"After he kidnapped her, holding her prisoner." Lucy chuckled, reminding those listening of the controversy within the story.
"Sounds a bit like Juvia and Gray's relationship!" Cana shouted with a beer to her lips.
"Don't compare us to that!!" Gray shouted with a red face.
Gajeel glared at the writing for a few moments, Levy watched, until she spoke. "Do you need help?"
"No I don't need help, shrimp!!" He grunted as his cheeks grew red. "I can read! Okay?"
"Then read. I want story time." Erza said with her mouth full of cake.
Gajeel grunted a bit, then looked down to the page.
Once upon a time, past the village and through the woods, their lay a castle tall as a mountain. It was filled with riches beyond imagination and inhabited by a ruthless young prince.
Bitter by his father's disappearance, he wandered the palace, accompanied only by his servants.
However, one cold winter night, a great knock was heard on the door. The prince, angered by the interruption, went to answer the door himself to see who had dare disrupt his evening.
There, at the door, was an old woman with pink hair and a red coat.
With a chill under her breath, she asked the prince to be kind and give her a room to escape the cold blizzard of the night.
The prince simply scoffed to the proposal, sending the woman away.
The woman stopped the young prince, warning him not to judge by appearances, but what rested within.
After being sent away by the prince yet again, the exterior of the woman melted, as she turned into a great white sky dragon.
"Foolish boy!!" She cried into the night. "You are unworthy of the treasures you behold!! For this I curse you! And all those within this castle."
With that, the prince felt his body change and reform. His body was engulfed in darkness, as the prince became what he was within. A beast.
"Ooo." Lucy cooed. "That was pretty good."
"I think Grandeen was in it!" Wendy hummed with bright curious eyes.
