The Letter

"Remember the day I asked you to be my girl? I knew you were all deep and philosophical, so I thought I'll write a poem for you. But once I took the pen in my hand, I didn't know what to write. So in the end, I just gave you a paper that said,
"I love food,
You eat food.
I love pizza
You love pizza
I suck at poems
Will you kiss me already?"

And I thought you'd probably slap me and walk away. Hell, I was even expecting you too. But you didn't run. And I knew I made the right decision.

I'm a changed man now. More importantly, YOU changed me. Yes Katie, You. I was just a cruel, self-centered, egotistical, addicted jerk (we both know it's true so don't try to deny it) but after meeting you, I wanted to be something more. Something substantial. Something that you'd be proud of.

I'm sorry you have to see this day. Sweetheart, you know I'd never hurt you. But I couldn't take it anymore. Now, I don't want you to go out searching for answers. There isn't going to be one. I need you to know that I love you. Yes, this jerk is capable of love. You feel that breeze? That's me shouting 'I LOVE YOU' from the mountain tops.

You never got your poem, but you never complained. So I decided before I go forever, I'd give it to you. And this time I knew exactly what to write about.

I am always with you

When I'm gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn't tie yourself to me with too many tears,
But be thankful we had so many good years.
I gave you my love, and you can only guess
How much you've given me in happiness.
I thank you for the love that you have shown,
But now it's time that I travelled on alone.
So grieve for me a while, if grieve you must
Then let your grief be comforted by trust
That is only for a while that we must part,
So treasure the memories within your heart.
I won't be far for life goes on.
And if you need me, call and I'll come.
Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near
And if you listen with your heart you'll hear
All my love around you, soft and clear.

Better late than never right?( P.S. I told you, I'm a changed man.) Inside this envelope you'll find a lighter. My lighter. You've already burned me, it's time you burn the ashes.

One last time, I love you Katherine Evans. Oh, how breathtakingly beautiful that sounds.
Always yours,
~Ryan
