The phone would begin ringing by the side of Carter's alarm clock. The clock indicating Five in the morning.

Carter would stir from his sleep, pulling at the sheets over his head. His arm unsucessfully lunging for the phone, after several more tries. He'd pick it up, pulling the reciever end to his ear.

"Mhmmm?"

He scratched his head as he locked over to the alarm clock, yawning into a closed fist as he looked to the window. It was drizzling outside, leaving a layer of water on the windows. The streetlight across from the apartment illuminating the room a little.

"Carter, It's Abby..."

Carter furrowed his brows, yawning into his hand again as he laid back on the mattress and looked to the ceiling.

"Abby, it's five in the morning..."

He exhaled deepily, the rise and fall of his chest steady as he continued to look at the plain, white ceiling.

"John, It's Kem..."

Carter raised an eyebrow, frowning a little at the mention of Kem. He gripped at the sheets in an anxious state before she could reply again, he threw the phone onto the stand and caused the  sheet to fly from the bed.

"Shit...What have you done Carter?"

He carelessly pulled his shirt on over his head, forgetting to unbutton his jeans as he pulled them on and clumisily fighting with his shoes as he scuffled to the front door of his apartment.

Carter stood at the dark reception of the hospital, pondering on his thoughts. Thoughts of Kem ravaging around his head, on his arrival. Abby had notified him that Kem had been admitted to hospital in Paris. He had heard no more since then.

The room was filled with an eerie sense of loss, the rain drizzling down on the windows and the droplets of water like tears dripping from the strands of hair that made up his fringe. He brushed his hand through his hair, exhaling deeply as thoughts of Kem and generalised thoughts rushed through his head. Carter turned his head to the door as Abby entered. He walked towards her with tears in his eyes, he knew something was gravely wrong from the look on Abby's face. Her emotions and facial expression carved into her skin. It was an expression that ruled out any jokes. Charters emotions ran high and his appearance showed it; his eyes watering with emotions and his hair thick with rainwater.

The next thing he knew, he was crumpled on the floor, crying and sniffing. Abby with a  reassuring hug around him as she rubbed his back comfortingly.

He had left Kem and in turn....Kem was gone...
